On Jan. 15, Hyundai Mobis announced that it has been included on the DJSI for the fourth year running, a clear sign that Hyundai Mobis belongs in the top 10 percent of global enterprises, as is proven by its selection of the 2014 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
The DJSI is a global index that ranks corporate sustainability management. The world's largest financial information company, Dow Jones and the Swiss investment institute Robeco SAM jointly select the world's top 2,500 companies based on market capitalization every year, and then evaluate their influence on the economy, the environment and society. Based on their evaluation, those enterprises are then divided into DJSI World (top 10 percent) DJSI Asia Pacific (top 20 percent) and DJSI Korea (top 30 percent).
Hyundai Mobis has received excellent marks in every evaluation field, both last year and this year, and it is listed in the DJSI World group alongside other global enterprises, such as Volkswagen, BMW and Siemens.
In particular, Hyundai Mobis received the highest score of any car parts manufacturer. Hyundai Mobis also ranked 6th out of the top 100 global car parts manufacturers announced by Automotive News in the U.S. last June. The global competitiveness of Hyundai Mobis has been highlighted once again with the repeated strong praise of its sustainability by the DJSI.
What¡¯s more, Hyundai Mobis received the highest score for its environmental performance. It was particularly praised for the way it has implemented factory operation policies to reduce greenhouse gases, as well as its commitment to creating environmental value through high-efficiency parts development, two factors that reflect the growing importance for enterprises of having a coherent climate change response.
In terms of its economic performance, Hyundai Mobis received good scores for its risk management, which is designed to reduce risk to investors and consumers, as well as for its systematic support policies for over 1,000 partner companies. Hyundai Mobis was also rated positively for the activities it undertakes to further communicate with groups through active social contribution activities, such as Transparent Umbrella Sharing and Junior Engineering Class.
¡°General investment for social contribution has already become an important part of enterprise management activities", said Jang Yoongyeong, the head of Hyundai Mobis PR team. ¡°We will realize sustainability management steadily and continuously to satisfy diverse stakeholders - from general consumers to investors.¡±
The certification ceremony and international conference for DJSI-listed enterprises are both being held on Feb. 16 at Lotte Hotel, Sogong-dong, Seoul.
Hyundai Mobis announced on Jan. 10 that it had conducted the "first handicapped children family tour program" in Gangwon-do last weekend, together with 17 families and children who have difficulty doing physical activities due to a disability caused by a traffic accident or a congenital mobility defect.
Hyundai Mobis employee volunteers and Purme Foundation employees helped 60 handicapped children and their family members for two days at Jeongdongjin, Gangwon-do, and Weoljeong Temple on a walking path, where wheelchairs can move without difficulty.
¡°Travel itself is a really difficult thing for families with a handicapped child to do,¡± said Jang. ¡°Our mobility convenience support service for handicapped children is able to spur greater social interest and understanding of handicapped children and their families.¡±
