Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) President Kwon Oh-kap, in his New Year¡¯s message, said, ¡°Let¡¯s make the year 2015 the first year of making another leap forward for restoring competitiveness.¡±
HHI President Kwon set the 2015 goal of winning $22.95 billion worth of orders and posting 24.3259 trillion won in sales.
¡°As we underwent many difficulties and changes during last year, we welcome the new year with an extraordinary air and resolution. We have many difficulties and challenges, including the recession of the global economy and ever-deepening of competitiveness among rivals in the same industry, including Chinese and Japanese, ahead,¡± President Kwon said. ¡°If we ourselves do not change, we cannot make a living and survive, and let¡¯s restore our competitive edge through change and innovation,¡± he added.
He specified 2015 management action plans: unit price competitiveness, safety and innovation of corporate culture.
¡°Regaining unit price competitiveness is the foremost thing to survive in the competition of the same business field,¡± President Kwon said. HHI established an ad hoc committee designed to ramp up competitive edge in the late 2014. Each division has been since redoubling efforts to strengthen its competitiveness with the head of each division responsible for management. President Kwon said HHI will have to put into more specific steps this year than last year¡¯s.¡±
¡°Our company¡¯s most important thing is in the production line, and we have to keep safety in our mind and redouble efforts to prevent serous disasters at worksites,¡± he said.
¡°If the company itself does not change, it will fall behind in competition,¡± he said. Kwon said such leaders as executives and general managers will have to break the mold to create a young, dynamic corporate environment.
¡°For the past 40 years, we¡¯ve endured many difficulties with a strong spirit and passion. If we translate tasks befalling us with a strong will, we¡¯ll get different outcomes year-end, and let¡¯s make the year 2015 a year of overcoming difficulties wisely with a firm determination,¡± he said.
In a related development, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group held a New Year¡¯s gathering with heads of 310 cooperative companies of HHI, Hyundai Mipo Shipyard and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. The participants pledged to join forces to overcome and seize up as an opportunity to make a second take-off.
Among those on hand at the event were HHI President Kwon, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries President Ha Kyung-jin, and HHI executives.
HHI to Localize 151 Marine Equipment & Materials
HHI has decided to translate into action a mid- and long-term plan to localize marine equipment and materials the company has established.
HHI formed a task force for localizing marine equipment and materials last September and the company is holding negotiations with buyer companies to purchase the items the company developed as the initial stage of localization.
HHI is in a four-stage localization process, depending on the scope of location of 151 target equipment and materials, including drill ships and Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO).
