¡®Fair Trade Order in Market will Invigorate the Economy¡¯c
Commissioner-designate Chung Jae-chan to stick to the basics in running the FTC to bring order to the market, which will invigorate the economy

29(Sat), Nov, 2014

The new commissioner of the Fair Trade Commission, Chung Jae-chan, said he will get back to the basics when it comes to the management of the commission by bringing order to the market in order to invigorate the economy.

The new commissioner is a former vice commissioner who left the commission in January, leaving behind 23 years in the government , but he came back to the top position at the commission just 10 months later.

He said the first order of business was setting up fair trade in the market. He compared running the FTC to watchmen or referees in sports, who focus on basic rules and regulations, staying faithful to the rules more than any thing else.

Chung believes that large and small firms will cooperate for mutual prosperity naturally if the FTC establishes fair trade order in the market. He said his job is to lead the FTC to stick to the basics to bring order to the market, which would perk up the economy.

The new FTC commissioner believes that the FTC should seek mutual growth for large and small firms. He also thinks it should prevent unfair trading practices among business firms to burnish economic growth.

Chung was a deputy commissioner of the FTC for three years. He got a job with Hanna University in September as a lecturer of industrial organization.Chung has to go through a parliamentary hearing to gain approval from the National Assembly before officially taking over his new position at the FTC. Many say he won¡¯t have trouble getting approval for his appointment.

A business administration graduate of Korean University in Seoul, the 1956-born new FTC commissioner is from Munkyung, North Gyeongsang Province. He got an MBA at Shelford University Graduate School in Great Britain.

He rose through the ranks after joining the FTC holding various important positions, including Cartel Investigation Department and the Enterprise Cooperation Team before rising to deputy commissioner.  The National Assembly Hearing Committee will hold a hearing on the commissioner-designate on Dec.4   .

Lee Takes Over As Minister of Personnel Management Agency

Lee Geun-myeon, former executive of human resources at Samsung Group, on Nov. 18 was named head of the Agency of Personnel Management, a new ministry created by President Park Geun-hye. He will take charge of all personnel affairs within the government.

The new minister said he hopes to be the ¡°seed¡± for various changes regarding personnel matters in government so the younger generations could enjoy a better future.

He said he is a complete outsider to the government and therefore cannot completely overhaul personnel policies within the gigantic bureaucratic system, but he will build a foundation for ¡°immense changes¡± in governmental personnel affairs, which should be made in the near future.

It was reported that President Park gave an order to find the right person in the private sector to take charge of the new ministry rather than someone in the bureaucratic world. They found Lee to be the right person.

Lee was said to have devoted himself to creating an environment for Samsung employees to work as hard as they can in order to display their full talents, not getting involved with structural or organizational changes at the group while he was there. Lee is likely to do the same for the government. He will try to focus on creating an environment so that employees can display their talents to the fullest.

He used to encourage unemployed young people to go abroad to find jobs, so they can fully commit themselves to their talents, which is both good for themselves and the world in general.
