Gana Logistics System is a rapidly grown enterprise that has utilized segregated control systems to secure a competitive advantage since its launching on Oct.1 , 1999. It is centered around Namdong Industrial Complex in Incheon and Banwol Industrial Complex in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province near Daegu.
Up till now, Gana has specialized in transactions with electronics firms to grow its business. As proof of its outstanding growth as a logistic company, the company won the Hopeful SME Award from the ISO International Deliberation Association, with the support of the Korea Federation of SMEs on Dec. 15.
Gana Logistics System adopted daring systems in its operation that no rival even attempted. Examples include 24-hour service and doing business on credit. The company attempted to differentiate its management from others in the industry with the introduction of a high-tech control system to secure its competitive power over its rivals. As a result, the company has been able to boost its position.
Gana Logistics started its business with electronics companies by delivering F-PCB, key parts for the industry and in particular, hand phones. As a result, the company has been able to secure almost all the PCB makers in the Incheon and Ansan areas with around 95 percent of its customers being the PCB makers. Gana has some 500 delivery vans. By taking advantage of its high-tech control system, the company has been able to build a nationwide logistics network that helps allows it to respond quickly to customers demands, along with kind service and a safe service system.
President Kim Gil-dok went to great lengths to learn his management system, having travelled all the way to Japan where he studied MK Taxi Service closely. In particular, Kim benchmarked MK¡¯s ¡°spirit.¡± The logistics business is also a service industry requiring kind service for its customers to expand its operation and grow. President Kim felt this and had to travel to Japan to learn how to provide said kind service.
Unlike its rivals, Gana Logistics provides training sessions twice a year for company¡¯s employees on ¡°providing kind service¡± as well as deepening their professionalism. Gana Logistics employees are well known for their courtesy.
The company has grown significantly over the years, and plans to expand its operation next year to deliver such products as construction materials, science equipment, medicine and air cargo. The company has been No. 1 in an industry with some 2,000 firms in terms of annual sales. Gana Logistics has recorded annual average growth of 12 percent since launching in 1999.
During an interview, Chiarman Kim Gil-yong attributed the company¡¯s success to its fast and kind customer service.
¡°We have been working hard to make Gana Logistics a top integrated one in the global logistics industry in this global age,¡± he said. ¡°We have been using IT watch system to locate the positions of the vans moving goods and has diversified the kinds of goods that we deliver, which should help cut the costs of our customers and make them competitive in their areas of businesses.¡± Chairman Kim Gil-yong, 59 -- who is built like a wrestler, is trustworthy at first glance. He said the secret to Gana Logistics¡¯s magnificent success has been the introduction of high-tech systems to the company¡¯s operation. Such systems have allowed their customers to cut their costs, he said.
He remembers the financial crisis in 2007 well, with the economy grinding to a hault. Gana Logistics imported high-tech operational equipment and cut delivery costs for the sake of its customers, the chairman recalled. The result is that Gana Logistics is now well known as the company that shares pains with its customers. The chairman¡¯s love for his siblings and employees has been well known. The oldest of nine siblings, Chairman Kim has been known to value human nature as the most celebrated factor in life, and continuous job creation as the most important virtue. Many employees (60 percent) are over 50 years old, in age with some of them in the 70s and 80s. The chairman gives them a chance to blossom in their lives.
Gana has no debt. The chairman learned the feeling of failure in business while he was running an electronics firm during the financial crisis. He decided at that time that the company should not take out loans, which is how Gana survived the financial crisis. The company kept investing despite tight financial conditions to create jobs. Gana Logistics grew even in tough times. Chairman Kim said Gana will keep investing in new areas such as the capacity to deliver more IT products with high-tech delivery equipment.
Gana is ready to play the role of leader in building an affluent world created from the harmony of IT and humans by carrying out its responsibility in full and its given roles. In describing future plans for Gana Logistics, Kim said he would like to see Gana continue to develop to keep its position as a leading high-tech logistics firm in Korea and the world. This doesn¡¯t sound good, but I do not know what to change it to. This can¡¯t be true. No company can survive, let along be No. 1, without taking out loans from the bank.ultimately led to the creation of business models that can contribute towards boosting the value of the company
