In his inaugural speech as CEO, President Park Gi-dong of Korea Gas Safety Corp. of said he will try to make the gas safety corp. the top company in the world -- even overtaking Japan.
During an inaugural ceremony held at the company¡¯s head office in Eumseong County in North Chungcheong Province, the new president said he will manage the company to do its maximum to minimize fatal accidents from gas, which now stands at the second after Japan, to make Korea the safest country in the world as far as gas accidents are concerned. In order to cut the number of gas accidents, the company will stick to the mid-to-long term plan drawn up by the government to turn gas safety measures to preemptive ones from the current ones, which were designed to take care of the aftermath of gas.
It¡¯s basically a new safety paradigm. The new president, the first to be installed as CEO of the company, came up through the rank and file. Park said he will base the company¡¯s gas accident prevention measures on the Gas Safety for the Happiness of People 3.0, which was put together by officers and staff to make sure that no gas accidents happen. Park also said he will focus on strengthening inspections, checkups and safety diagnoses, along with efforts to make the company¡¯s gas safety technologies the best in the country to secure the top competitive edge over others.
At the same time, he will see that the establishment of the Energy Safety Research Center and the Industrial Gas Safety Technology Support Center are completed soon to develop new gas safety infrastructure and expand the manpower and budgets needed for those projects. The goal is to turn the region where gas safety facilities are located into safety meccas -- and eventually a global hub for gas safety in the days ahead.
Park also said he will try to see that every nook and cranny is covered as far as gas safety is concerned by building a tight gas safety net across the country and strengthening support for the general public¡¯s safety. The goal here is to see to it that no area is vulnerable to gas accidents.
Citing that around 70 percent of gas accidents occur in the use of LP gas, which is preferred by low-income people, the company will continue to work on a project to improve the LP gas facilities. They want to cut the number of accidents related to LP gas by 17 percent from the past three years. The company will continue to supply gas safety measurement gauges and model projects so that a tight social gas safety net around the country is built, search out and eliminate gas safety blind spots.
KGS will continue to find new markets through the Creative Management so that KGS can grow with the gas industry together by building a tight safety net across the country, which will help the development of new technologies and improve the quality of the products. KGS will provide support to the gas industry¡¯s exports of its gas products overseas, in order to give a boost to its growth efforts.
Park also unveiled his management plan to help improve trust in the government, with KGS playing its part as a state-owned company in charge of protecting the people from all kinds of gas accidents.
