KOSPO Earns ¡®Legend of Integrity¡¯
Power company honored with 1st class degree in ACRC¡¯s integrity survey for 3rd straight year

18(Thu), Dec, 2014

Korea Southern Power Co. has earned the 1st class grade in the public enterprise (II) category in an integrity survey by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) for the third year in a row.

Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) has earned a reputation as a public organization of integrity as the company received the 1st class in the public enterprise (II) category in an integrity survey by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) for the third year in a row.

KOSPO got 8.89 points to rank 1st among 640 public entities in the public enterprise (II) category of the 2014 integrity survey by ACRC, whose results were made public on Dec. 3. The power company made a rare feat of topping ACRC¡¯s integrity survey list for the third straight year. In 2010, KOSPO made it to the top of the ACRC list among 711 surveyed organizations. The power company has since topped the integrity list of public organizations for the third straight year. KOSPO ranked 1st among public entities and 2nd overall.

The company got the honors to rank 1st among public entities four times in five years.    The integrity survey index is calculated based on the results of a questionnaire survey and the occurrence of corruption cases in accordance with a law concerning the establishment and operation of ACRC.  KOSPO has succeeded in establishing its own integrity culture thanks to the KOSPO president and standing auditor¡¯s strong determination to put integrity into action. Employees are required to make integrity part of their life according to a written pledge, and executives are asked to carry a letter of integrity stating the reasons for their appointment and a sense of responsibility to remind them of the importance of integrity.

Freshmen employees have been engaged in activities to promote a sense of integrity, and the rank and file¡¯s ideas on integrity  have been put into a database to spread integrity to every corner of the company.   As part of efforts to strengthen integrity among employees, the power company has a one-strikeout system in place. The auditor¡¯s office operates a ¡°mobile shinmungo¡± system in which it tours inside and outside customers and business partners to lend an ear to their concerns.

KOSPO got higher points from ACRC¡¯s integrity survey by having produced songs and broadcasts to nurture an integrity environment over 60 times. The company has been praised for spreading an environment of integrity on a voluntary basis through such campaigns as ¡°High-Five Drive¡± for joining efforts to put into action.

On top of establishing an integrity environment, KOSPO has formed ¡°Integrity Winner Club¡± to spread integrity to seven related organizations, including Korea Industrial Complex Corp. and Korea Power Exchange, to enhance integrity levels through sharing anti-corruption policies and collaboration for benchmarking.

KOSPO Strives to Shift into a ¡®Positive Integrity Mode¡¯

KOSPO sees its integrity activities as ¡°lukewarm,¡± but the company strives to shift into a ¡°positive integrity mode¡± designed to upgrade integrity levels a step higher and transform the way the company is operated and managed to make integrity part of their daily life, KOSPO officials said.
