Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development Alumni (SNU-ACADA) hosted the 7th ACADA Fraternity Night. A ceremony was held to present Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development Awards at Lotte Hotel in Seoul on Nov. 28.
Roughly 300 alumni were in attendance. Also participating were SNU-ACADA Chairman Lee Pil-woo, who was reelected for his 3rd term in October, Park Jung-hoon, head professor of the Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development, Chairman Choi Yeol-gon, Honorary Chairman Lee Jung-ik, SNU-ACADA members and their families.¡°I extend thanks to the Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development and alumni for their concern and support, and I bid farewell to the difficult 2014 and wish for making the New Year 2015 as the Year of National Prosperity,¡± said SNU-ACADA Chairman Lee in his opening speech.The health-conscious Chairman Lee wished the alumni good health. Lee also urged the participating alumni to devote themselves to do their best to accomplish their mission as leaders of society and respect their sense of responsibility, adding that people¡¯s harmony is needed to make the nation a better place for all. Lee praised the winners of the Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development Awards and called for them to play leading roles in reinvigorating the alumni association¡¯s activities.
Prof. Park, delivered a speech in which the alumni, who mostly head up Korea¡¯s major positions, devote themselves to playing an essential role as a human network through mutual exchanges. He also praised the alumni for their utmost support for the development of the SNU-GSPA and their leading roles to establish national policies. Park remarkedd on behalf of Kim Joon-ki, dean of SNU¡¯s Graduate School of Public Administration SNU-GSPA), which serves as the civilian side leader of the independent Regulatory Reform Commission.
In his message, SNU President Sung Nak-in said the university is striving to establish its own unique identity and roles while competing with leading universities around the world. He said the school is at a transitional period and faces new challenges. He appealed for alumni of all walks of life to provide their utmost to do their best in their own fields. Sung thanked the SNU-ACADA chairman for his strenuous efforts toward the development of SNU.
Chairman Choi Yeol-gon, who is concurrently chairman of the committee for screening the Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development Awards, said in his report on the award winners, ¡°SNU-ACADA Chairman Lee Pil-woo has demonstrated leadership to invigorate the alumni association, and recognize the standing of the Seoul National University¡¯s Advanced Center for Administrative Development Awards.¡±
Choi said award winners of each of the five categories were selected based on their contributions to the alumni association. The proud award winners were selected amongst Korea¡¯s top public administration and management policymakers, those who have earned innovative and excellent administrative achievements, ACADA members who have contributed to the development of the alumni association, who have been recognized for their unparalleled, innovative research outcomes, those who have obtained approval from certification institutions, and those who commit no criminal acts.
The grand prize in the public administration category went to Kim Myung-kyu, an advisory of the alumni association, who concurrently serves as the chairman of Korea National Prayer Breakfast. Kim, a lawmaker of the 14th and 15th National Assemblies, received the Public Entity Management Grand Prize while serving as the 8th president of Korea Gas Corp. He has been credited with his contribution to the development of the energy industry for holding such mega-events as the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers General Assembly in Korea in 2013. Kim also held such positions as a director of the Patriot Ahn Chang-ho Memorial Association and a director of the Operations Committee of the Far Eastern Broadcasting Co.
Kim Jin-wang, standing vice chairman of the alumni association, was presented with the grand prize in the medical/health category. He is a plastic surgeon. He serves as chairman of the World Laser Institute and the honorary chairman of the International Biographical Center.
Kim Woo-hyun, an advisor of the alumni association and chairman of the Seogwiopyo College Foundation, received the grand prize in the corporate management category. Kim, who was once with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and National Science Research Institute, now serves as an honorary member of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission.
