Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. came away with the Environment Social Governance (ESG) Top Corporate Award among the listed firms at the Korea Exchange from the Korea Corporate Governance Service (CGS) at a ceremony held at the International Conference Room on July 3 at the Korea Exchange.
The dignitaries present at the award presentation ceremony included Chairman Shin Je-yoon of the Financial Services Commission, Chairman Choi Kyung-soo of the Korea Exchange, President Park Kyung-seo of the Korea Corporate Governance Service (CGS), and executives of the firms that won awards.
The CGS has been evaluating the listed firms on their social service activities and the results of their governance structures and selected the firms with the most excellent records in those areas and presented them with awards to lead them to continue to improve their governance structure, social services, and environment management so that a healthy corporate management culture might be created and take deep root in the corporate world in Korea.
Out of the 694 listed firms and 187 listed on the Kosdaq that were screened for their corporate governance structures, social responsibility management, and environmental management, six of them were selected as excellent corporate governance enterprises and the winners of CGS awards. S-Oil won the CGS Grand Award and Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Daum Communications won the top business firm awards, while the other three firms won the excellent business firm awards.
The letter accompanying the award said Samsung Electro-Mechanics has excelled not only in its corporate governance structure charters, corporate governance grades, and governance structure model standards, but it also put on public notice its board of directors and its regulations, the board¡¯s activities, and all kinds of other information on corporate governance on its homepage in detail to give interested parties a deeper understanding of its corporate governance structure. The letter also singled out the company¡¯s moves to boost the safety of its products by setting up the product liability committee to ensure safety from a product¡¯s development stages to the mass production stage through tests and analyses.
The letter also noted the company¡¯s work to improve the cooperative firms¡¯ sustainability through ¡°S-Partner¡± to evaluate their key areas of management and operations such as the environment quality management system, production, alternative process, and labor and human rights, among others in the corporate social responsibility sector.
