Minister Choi Yanghee of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) stressed the enhancement of the dynamics of the creative economy based on convergence by spreading the creative economy through ¡®creativity and challenge.¡¯
Minister Choi made the remarks at his office at the Gwacheon Government Complex on July 16 as he took office. ¡°We¡¯ll devote ourselves to nurturing manpower and companies with a global competitive edge by supporting innovative ideas coming from a creative mindset.¡± Choi went on to say that his ministry will advance the realization of the creative economy by building a new ecosystem of the creative economy linked to convergence.
The new MSIP minister said his ministry will further solidify infrastructure of the creative economy through endless innovation of science and technology and ICT. The world¡¯s top-rated ICT infrastructure will be innovated into a platform for the creative economy in which internet-based new industries such as the internet of things (IoT), Big Data, and the cloud will be fostered to create innovative opportunities and new jobs.
Minister Choi said, ¡°My inauguration as MSIP minister is an incomparable honor for me, but I feel a heavy sense of responsibility on my shoulders in consideration of the public¡¯s high expectations and mission of the times. People¡¯s evaluations are made in a sterner fashion.¡± He added that the continuity of the policies the MSIP has so far implemented should be maintained, and anything found lacking needs to be complemented by thoroughly reviewing the way things are being conducted.
Choi said, ¡°I¡¯ll take dramatic steps such as the breaking the mold to tide over the stark economic conditions and build a new innovation-oriented economic system in a way that other economies will benchmark Korea¡¯s creative economy in 10 years.¡±

He noted that his ministry will strive to create an environment in which due compensations and evaluations of ideas and innovative technology are done and youth¡¯s start-up failures can be accepted while spearheading efforts to dramatically ameliorate regulations that stand in the way of the private sector¡¯s autonomy and creativity.
Emphasizing the dynamics of the creative economy through convergence, the minister said his ministry will give priority to software.
He said his ministry will promote collaboration among ministries, the private sector, and the public sector to nurture future growth engines that raise the nation¡¯s per capita income to $40,000 and tear down the barriers between the government and the private sector.
