Hyundai Mobis Co., an affiliate auto parts maker of the Hyundai Motor Group, has been building its plants in foreign countries where Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have auto plants and will continue to do so, the company said.
The company has also been building and operating logistics centers for its parts in those countries to make them available to local customers.
Russia has been no exception. The company entered Russia in 2011 after Hyundai Motor built its auto plant there. The company has been operating a module plant in St. Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia, since January 2011, with the capacity to build modules for 200,000 cars a year.
Most of the modules that Mobis turns out at its Russian plant are for drivers¡¯ seats, consoles, and front and rear bumpers from its vast plant covering 58,504 m2. The modules are supplied to the Hyundai Motor plant, which turns out the Accent and Solaris models in Russia, employing some 500 local employees.
The Mobis plant consists of the injection line, the painting line, and the module assembly line all in the same building and the plant is connected to the Hyundai Motor plant through a 50-meter tunnel. The tunnel is a very important part of the two companies, the parts maker and the complete car maker. The auto parts and modules are sent to the Hyundai Motor plant through a conveyer tunnel in order of the car assembly lines to maximize the production of cars.
The company operates a parts supply center in Moscow with four large storage houses built on a 40,000 m2 site in 2010 forming a triangle to save time when moving parts among the buildings, the company said.
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have been selling more cars in Russia and Central European countries of late, causing Mobis to step up the production of auto parts for both complete cars and for after service.
Mobis plans to build more auto parts storage houses in the days ahead, with its Moscow parts storage house at the center, to speed up the supply of auto parts to auto plants and its customers in Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe where both Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors operate auto plants.
