KOTRA Exec. VP Kim Captures Iron Tower Medal
In recognition of his contributions to helping Korean firms to win overseas projects, especially, SK Construction¡¯s thermal power plant project in Chile worth $1.2 bln

Eexc.Vice President Kim Byung-kwon of the Strategic Marketing of KOTRA won the Industrial Merit Iron Tower Medal for recognition of his contributions to increasing the overseas project orders for Korean firms, strengthening the competitive power for SME exporters and projects to support diverse Korean firms to expand their overseas operations to increase exports this year as KOTRA strives to support SMEs overseas advancement with KOTRA global business platform to increase Korea¡¯s exports to reach the $2 trillion level.
Exc.Vice President Kim joined KOTRA in 1985 and held various key positions including four overseas assignments, the research department, the manager of the service industry invitation, and manager of the personnel dep¡¯t before his promotion to his current position in February of 2012.
He has been at the forefront of KOTRA strategies to expand Korea¡¯s exports to $2 trillion annually by finding new industries and new overseas markets by strengthening the competitive strength of SMEs and support Korean firms operations overseas.
Kim, especially, had his hands in exploring new markets and new industries for exports, especially, exports of cultural contents and knowledge services. As a result, he had his hands in exporting 11 cases of cultural contents each case worth around $1.3 million and exports of $2 million of TV animation using jointly K production- Creative Media Point Co. and Korean characters. He also has been involved in the production of 52 episodes of ¡°Angry Bird¡± of animation by Sunwoo Entertainment and Rovio Co. of Finland.
Exc.Vice President Kim has been doing a great job for managing overseas projects by related domestic firms and organizations by help running a project securing council with some 600 firms as members and KOTRA¡¯s own project information system to boost the capture of overseas projects. He also his hands in SK Construction winning the Red Dragon Coal Thermal Power Plant Project on EPC basis valued at $1.2 billion in Chile. He also provided support to capturing IT infrastructure project orders in East Europe, Central and South America, and emerging nations including large projects up for large builders under the Global Smart SOC Initiative.
Exc.Vice President Kim also has been promoting the Global Partnering projects for Korean SMEs to become global-level firms by jointly developing parts with global manufacturers as Korean SMEs in the partnering projects can upgrade their technological capacities and secure stable long-term sales routes with financial support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Small and Medium Administration through demand-type R&D programs.
Kim also provided support to hopeful domestic firms to attract capital, investment, upgraded technologies and overseas advancement channels so that they can speed up their globalization and foster the next generation firms to grow.
