East-West Power (EWP) has declared its future vision, dubbed ¡°2030 MVP Company,¡± calling for raising its electricity generation capacity to 34,200MW and sales to 13 trillion won by 2030.
Some 200 EWP executives and staff members participated in a ceremony at Dangjin Thermal Power Complex on Nov. 22 to declare the vision.
The vision ¡°2030 Most Valuable Power Company¡± aims at growing into an energy company with supreme values with the ultimate goal of making human life happier.
True to the long-term vision, EWP aims at increasing its total power facility capacity to 34,200MW, sales to 13 trillion won, and net profit to some 1.2 trillion won by 2030 by ensuring sustainable growth in the Korean power industry amidst a rapidly changing business environment, contending with such factors as cutthroat competition and the introduction of new technologies.
The new vision was set and declared after EWP staff¡¯s views on the direction of its future growth were pooled, shared, and discussed through diverse channels.
Specifically speaking, the vision requires the diversifying of EWP¡¯s business portfolios from thermal power generation to a wide range of energy businesses such as new and renewable energy, resources exploration, and new energy technology.
Of the 34,200MW of capacity, the combined power generation capacity will account for 26,200MW or 77 percent, the new and renewable energy sector will cover 3,000MW or 9 percent, and the remaining 5,000MW or 14 percent will be obtained overseas.
The vision also calls for creating top values for customers by lowering a power generator breakdown rate, achieving a five-star safety levels, raising environmental and safety standards to global levels and ensuring social responsibility.
An EWP official said all EWP staff shared views and opinions and concurred on the vision to provide economical and eco-friendly energy by coping with future energy environment changes, thus contributing to enhancing not only people¡¯s life and but also human happiness. The official went on to say that they will push for establishing its corporate brand as a globally recognized power company by putting into practice core values — creativity, passion & challenge, cooperation & integrity, and human respect — with all the staff¡¯s strong determination and capacity.
Meanwhile, EWP management and labor held a ceremony to make written pledges to join in a public campaign to hold humble wedding ceremonies and to abolish empty formalities and vanity. EWP has become the first public entity to join in the campaign as part of its efforts to put into practice social responsibility as a public organization. Management and labor saw eye to eye in pledging their participation in the drive. Fifty-four executives in first-class or above positions and labor leaders participated in the campaign.
EWP plans to pitch for its staff¡¯s participation in the campaign through an in-house address system and social networking services and provide support to the needy families¡¯ holding humble wedding ceremonies by lending auditoriums to them free of charge.
POMMS, EWP¡¯s first own O&M System
EWP has introduced the Plant Operation and Maintenance Management System (POMMS) developed with its own technology.
Features of POMMS include web-based OEM information at any worksite, a reduction in maintenance costs by some 11 percent annually, and improved work efficiency through the simplification and standardization of the O&M processes.
EWP also carries out world-class levels of operation and maintenance of power units with its accumulated knowledge and competence.
The power company was awarded the First Prize for its period of ¡°Longest Faultless Operation¡± by the Electric Utility Cost Group (EUCG) during the period between 2007 and 2009.
