The annual merits awards event on electrical safety held to keep nation aware of electrical mishaps

Korea Electrical Safety Corp.(KESCO) hosted the Korea Electrical Safety Grand Award ceremony on Oct. 25 at the Grand InterContinental Hotel in Seoul with some 500 people from the power industry and the government attending, led by Vice Minister for Trade and Energy Han Jin-hyun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Ener-gy(MOTIE) and President Park Cheol-gon of KESCO and President Jeon Dae-chon of the Korea Gas Safety Corp. with the backing of the MOTIE.
The event has been hosted by KESCO annually to promote the advancement in the safe use of electricity thus making contributions to the industrial growth of Korea by awarding those who made contributions towards electrical safety around the country.

The winners of some of the medals and citations which were awarded included executive director Kim Sung-keun of KESCO who won the Industrial Merit Bronze Medal for his contributions to electrical safety, Plant Manager Lee Seung-kyu of LSIS Co. Cheongju plant who won the Industrial Prize and Korea Electrical Power Corp. won the organization award as well as the Presidential Citation.
The MOTIE vice minister said in the past 10 years, the average power usage in Korea has been six times higher than the OECD average and two times more than the annual GDP growth average and the government will continue to strengthen electrical safety continuously as it has done in the past with the helpful voluntary participation of the private sector in integrated energy safety management measures in each energy sector and through cooperation with public sector organizations which are designed to prevent electrical accidents before they occur.
The government plans to strengthen the check-up systems on electrical safety facilities and spur R&D activities on electrical safety technologies to help make Korea a truly advanced nation where its people can be happy and safe in every sense of the word.
KESCO President Park said in his speech that those who have made contributions to electrical safety and helped make the world safe from electrical accidents have led the development of Korea. The realization of a safe society leads to the people¡¯s happiness. He also added, ¡±Let¡¯s make a country where everyone is happy as far as electrical safety is concerned by vitalizing ¡°Speed Call¡± and other emergency mobilizations to take care of any problem related to electricity.¡±
An international seminar on electrical safety hosted by the Electrical Safety Research Institute followed the ceremony as a side-event with the subject of ¡°ICT Fusion Technology Recent Trends Both in Korea and Overseas.¡±
