Korea National Railway (KR) participated in the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC) 2026, where the company expanded cooperation in the railway sector with key overseas clients and relevant organizations, thereby strengthening the foundation for the Korean railway industry’s overseas expansion.
KR announced on Sept. 17 that it had participated in the GICC 2026 which ran at Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul for three days from Sept. 15 to 17.
The GICC is an international event designed to strengthen cooperation on global infrastructure projects, bringing together key figures such as ministers, vice-ministers, and CEOs from major overseas clients alongside Korean organizations and companies.
The event was held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK).
At the event, KR hosted the Transport Cooperation Seminar and shared its experience in enhancing station-area accessibility and urban value by linking railways with urban development under the theme of the “Korean-style Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model” with overseas clients and organizations.
Additionally, KR signed an MOU with “Rohi Ohani Tojikiston” (Tajik Railways), agreeing to cooperate on sharing information and providing consultation regarding current railway projects, exchanging railway-related information and technology, strengthening the capabilities of Tajikistani railway professionals, and operating a working-level consultative body to develop cooperative projects.
Following the 2022 signing of a memorandum of understanding on railway cooperation with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport, KR established a cooperative framework with Rohi Ohani Tojikiston (Tajik Railways), aiming to expand bilateral exchanges and working-level consultations this time.
Through this initiative, KR will actively seek opportunities to participate in local railway projects in Tajikistan.
In parallel, KR held a series of meetings with high-ranking officials including the Minister of Public Works and Transport of Laos and the Director of Panama’s National Railway Authority to share information on local railway and transport infrastructure development plans and the status of key projects.
Their discussions also covered potential cooperation leveraging KR’s railway technology and project management expertise.
At this year’s GICC, KR engaged with nine organizations from eight countries, broadening its cooperative reach with key clients.
Based on the outcomes of these agreements and meetings, the company intends to identify promising railway projects and actively support Korean companies in breaking into the global market.
“The GICC serves as a crucial platform for identifying infrastructure development needs across various nations and exploring new possibilities for cooperation,” KR Chairman Jung Jin-hyuk said.
“We will use this event to solidify trust with key clients and do our utmost to ensure that the Korean railway industry’s outstanding technology and experience translate into greater opportunities in overseas markets.”
Surprise Emergency Response Drill for Indeokwon–Dongtan Section 7
The Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters of the Korea National Railway conducted an emergency response drill at the construction site (roadbed construction and related work) for the Indeokwon–Dongtan Section 7 of Gyeonggi Province on Sept. 16.
The drill was designed to ensure rapid initial responses and increase on-site response capabilities in the event of an accident.
Approximately 30 officials from KR and its partner companies participated in this drill. Conducted without prior notice, the exercise focused on verifying whether the on-site response system operates rapidly and smoothly in the event of an actual accident.
In particular, the drill simulated a scenario where a rockfall occurred during the clearing of rocks and soil following tunnel excavation blasting.
The participants executed step-by-step response procedures ranging from initial incident reporting and the mobilization of the emergency response team to casualty rescue and emergency restoration in a manner that mirrored real-life conditions.
