Korean and Chilean business leaders came together and discussed ways of establishing “Korean-Chilean future cooperation partnership” to open a new era of shared growth.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and SOFOFA jointly hosted the “Korean-Chilean Business Roud-table” in Santiago on July 30.
President Lee Jae-myung participated in the event, which brought together 22 business leaders from the two countries and gave words of encouragement to participants.
Among the participants from the Korean side were Chmn. Lee Woo-hyun of OCI Holdings, concurrently chairman of the Korean-Chilean Business Cooperation Committee, Chmn. Jang In-hwa of POSCO Holdings, Chmn. Koo Ja-eun of LS Group, Chmn. Choi Yun-beom of Korea Zinc, Vice Chmn. Jang Jae-hoon of Hyundai Motor Group, President Lee Dong-hoon of SK Bio Farm, President Ryu Jae-cheol of LG Electronics, President Jeong In-seop of Hanwha Ocean, and President Choi Soo-yeon of Naver.
Among attendees from the Chilean side were Chilean ranking officials, including Patricio Torres, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paula Estevez, Deputy Minister of International Economic Affairs, Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Fernández Ruiz, General Director of ProChile, and SOFOFA Chmn. Rosario Navarro.
Chmn. Lee Woo-hyun said, “Chile is the signatory of Korea’s first FTA, and Korea is Chile’s first FTA signatory in Asia.”
“Both countries proposed the establishment of new growth opportunities in the whole of the future industries, such as core minerals, advanced tech/digital sector and eco-friendly energies,” he said.
SOFOFA Chmn. Rosario Navarro stressed the economic potential of Korea’s advanced technologies and Chile’s rich resources and renewable energy potential.
The chairman proposed to economic circles of the two countries the establishment of a sustainable partnership to explore new investment opportunities and growth industries.
At the meeting, they discussed ways of upgrading economic cooperation of the two countries in future growth sectors, such as core minerals, advanced technology/digital, and eco-friendly energy and expanding trade sectors.
At a session on core minerals, POSCO Holdings, LS and Korea Zinc discussed ways of upgrading bilateral cooperation in the resources sectors of the two countries. At the advanced tech and digital session, LG Electronics, Hanwha Ocean and Naver explored ways of promoting bilateral cooperation in AI and shipbuilding/maritime sectors.
In the last session, Hyundai Motor, OCI Holdings, SK Bio Farm, Hosan Trading and CICD discussed ways of cooperating and expanding trade in the eco-friendly energy sector.
Yoon Cheol-min, head of the International Trade Headquarters at KCCI said, “The business round-table takes on significance as it has explored new business opportunities beyond the conventional trade and resources-oriented cooperation, and KCCI will offer full support so that companies of both countries can lead the global markets in more sectors.”
KCCI Holds ‘Korea-Mongolia Business Forum’
The Korea Chamber of Commerce, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and KCCIM jointly hosted “Korea-Mongolia Business Forum” in connection with President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit on July 9.
About 300 people from political and economic circles of both countries participated in the forum in the presence of President Lee and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
Participants from the Korean side included Chmn. Koo Ja-eun, head of the economic delegation, Chmn. Jang In-hwa of POSCO Holdings, Vice Chmn. Lee Hyung-hee of SK Group, concurrently KCCI vice chairman, President Hyun Shin-gyoon of LG CNS, President Jang Byung-ho of Hanwha Investment & Securities, and President Lee Kye-in of POSCO INTERNATIONAL.
Heads of institutions, including KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung, Hwang Ki-yeon, Chairman and CEO of the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank).
Among the attendees from the Mongolian side were Jadambyn Enkhbayar, First Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia and Minister of Economy and Development, Deputy Prime Minister Togmid Dorjkhand, Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battcechek.
Both countries discussed core minerals and distribution, among other topics. Kwon Soon-jin, head of the Mineral Resources Headquarters at KOMIR (Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corp.) spoke about the theme “Building of Korean-Mongolian Core Minerals Supply Chains and the Direction of Implementing Joint Projects.”
