KOFPI Ramps Up Cooperation in Forestry Restoration with Kyrgyzstan

Korea Forestry Promotion Institute (KOFPI) offered an educational policy program targeting the vice minister of the Ministry of Energy Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the forestry authority head and presidential officials, designed to ramp up forestry restoration and disaster response capabilities from June 29 and July 3.

The program was arranged as part of an ODA project in the forestry sector of Kyrgyzstan KOFPI has been implementing since 2025.

The educational program covered themes, such as Korea’s afforestation policies and tree improvement for climate change response, seedling production technology modernization and forest seed management.

Delegates showed a keen interest in policies to restore damaged forests as they looked into sites of restoring areas damaged by bush fires.

KOFPI President Choi Mu-yeol said, “The invitational, educational program is hoped to serve as an opportunity to raise Kyrgyzstan’s capabilities to restore forests whose deforestation has been exacerbated in the wake of climate change, and we will strive efforts so that the cooperation program will lead to a fruitful achievement.”

KOFPI Wraps Up Invitational, Educating Program on Forestry Policies of Honduras

Korea Forestry Promotion Institute under the umbrella of the Korea Forest Service conducted an invitational, educational program, targeting forestry policy officials, including the National Institute of Forest Conservation and Development, Protected Areas and Wildlife (ICF) from June 15 to June 19.

The program was conducted as part of an ODA project in the forestry sector of Honduras KOFPI has been conducting since 2023.

It was designed to help forestry officials in Honduras improve sustainable forestry management by taking a cue from Korea’s successful forestry policies and advanced technologies.

The program covered four core themes, including international cooperation for climate change response, forestry disaster response and management, lumber product fabrication, and preserving forest genetic resources.

Participants showed a keen interest as they looked into Korea’s ICT-based forestry disaster monitoring system and multi-purpose bush fire-fighting system, as residents in Honduras were threatened by a succession of bush fires, which took place recently.

KOFPI President Choi Mu-yeol said, “I expect the educational program to serve as a foundation to raise bilateral cooperation between Korea and Honduras in the forestry sector, and based on the achievements, we will expand international cooperation in the forestry sector to many Central and South America, beyond Honduras.”

KOFPI Opens Eight Educational Programs Targeting Forestry People at Seven Areas Across Nation

Korea Forestry Promotion Institute is operating educational programs tailored to meet forestry site needs at seven areas across the nation, based on surveys on needs by local governments.

The programs are offered according to the characteristics of items and field needs of each area. KOFPI is to offer the programs in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do,; Cheongyang, Chungcheongnam-do,; Muju, Jangsu and Jinan, Jeollabuk-do,; Uiryeong, Gyeongsangnam-do,; and Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do. Starting July, KOFPI will offer the educational programs on each area’s needs, such as distribution/marketing, new species cultivation and processing.

KOFPI Offers Educational Program Targeting MAG Forestry Policy Officials in El Salvador

KOFPI conduced an invitational, educational program targeting forestry policy officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) in El Salvador. Held from June 11 to June 15, it is designed to raise forestry resources and ramp up capabilities to cope with disasters.

The education program was arranged as part of an Official Development Assistance (ODA) project in the forestry sector of El Salvador that KOFPI has been implementing since 2023.

The program served as an opportunity for forestry policy officials of El Salvador to share experiences and policies on Korea’s successful afforestation, and it focused on providing support so that they can ramp up their sustainable forestry management capabilities.

It consisted of working-level courses on securing and managing forestry genetic resources, seedling cultivation skills, strategies to preserve plants against the climate crisis, forestry disaster response and safety, and ecology tourism profit models using forestry resources.

In particular, it was learned that the delegation showed a keen interest in a forestry resources management regime encompassing seeds and seedling production, bushfire and other disaster response systems, and forestry tourism operation cases.

KOFPI expected the educational program to serve as an opportunity to give El Salvador a leg-up in recovering wasteland areas and improving disaster response capabilities by sharing Korea’s forestry management technologies and policy experiences.

KOFPI President Choi Mu-yeol said, “I hope the invitational program will become a foundation to help El Salvador raise capabilities to recover its wasteland forests and cope with disasters, and we will make efforts so that both countries can maintain practical cooperation through their bridgehead role in sustainable forestry cooperation.”
