The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) Authority announced that it held a meeting of the Songdo International Eco Center Project Task Force (TF) at Songdo G Tower on May 20, where they set out to solidify a project cooperation system by reviewing the status of each organization and sharing best practices at home and abroad.
This meeting was held to enhance the execution of the Songdo International Eco Center Project being promoted in conjunction with the Songdo District 11 Development Project and to strengthen a phase-by-phase collaboration system.
The construction of the Songdo International Eco Center is a project being pursued in accordance with the conditions of an environmental impact assessment consultation for the Songdo Reclamation Project.
The core objective is to create an ecological space, including an artificial wetland, near a research complex on the northern side of Songdo District 11-2.
In doing so they are establishing an international-level eco-friendly space that integrates ecological, environmental, tourism, and educational functions.
The IFEZ Authority will boost the competitiveness of the IFEZ as a sustainable global zone through this.
The IFEZ Authority formed the Songdo International Eco Center Project TF last August and has maintained a collaborative system by holding one plenary meeting and eight working-level meetings. The TF includes 26 departments from 15 organizations, including the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP), the Korea Polar Research Institute, the Incheon City government, and the IFEZ Authority.
At the meeting, the participants discussed the following — the EAAFP¡¯s presentation on overseas wetland and ecological space creation cases, focusing on the London Wetland Centre and Mai Po Wetland in Hong Kong; the Korea Polar Research Institute¡¯s presentation on polar animal protection zone management cases and considerations for their application to major migratory bird sites in Korea; and a report on progress and future plans by organizations or departments. Then they had a free discussion about cooperation measures for project implementation.
The IFEZ Authority plans to continue to collaborate on the fields of ecology, environment, tourism, and education through the operation of the TF and will do its utmost to realize the IFEZ as a global sustainable zone where citizens and nature are harmonized.
Promoting Financial Industry in Cheongna with Hana Financial Group
The IFEZ Authority announced that the Hana Financial Group Headquarters Building was completed in Cheongna International City on May 21. The company will begin full-scale relocation procedures starting this September.
This marks the first case of a major Korean financial holding company relocating its headquarters outside of Seoul.
Many experts expect it will help form a large-scale financial cluster in Cheongna, bringing together approximately 4,000 financial professionals.
The completion of Hana Dream Town was made possible by the close cooperation and trust between the IFEZ Authority and Hana Financial Group.
Incheon City provided stable administrative support, while the financial group kept its promises with the city to the end and really made a big investment in the Cheongna area.
From this coming September until the end of 2026, approximately 2,200 employees from 10 Hana Financial Group affiliates including Hana Financial Group, Hana Bank, Hana Securities, Hana Card, Hana Capital, Hana Savings Bank, Hana F&I, Hana Life Insurance and Hana Fund Service will complete their relocation in stages.
Approximately 4,000 financial professionals including employees of Hana Financial TI and its partner companies will work at the Hana Integrated Data Center. So they are expected to set up a large financial cluster in the region.
Cheongna has a geographical strength, as it is adjacent to Incheon International Airport.
It can provide optimal conditions for Hana Financial Group to serve as a global forward base for expanding into the world.
Leveraging this foundation, the IFEZ Authority plans to foster Cheongna into a global digital financial hub where advanced financial industries such as fintech and blockchains are concentrated, thereby enhancing Korea¡¯s competitiveness.
