Korea District Heating Corporation (KDHC) announced on May 28 that it was selected as an ¡°excellent¡± enterprise for enhancing corporate value in 2026 by the Korea Exchange (KRX) and received the KRX Chairman¡¯s Award.

The Excellent Enterprise for Enhancing Corporate Value Awards selects listed companies that have demonstrated outstanding efforts and strong performance in implementing value-up plans following their public disclosure.

Selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation combining quantitative metrics, such as total shareholder return and return on equity with qualitative metrics, such as corporate governance and disclosure fidelity. KDHC received consistently high ratings across all evaluation categories.

In January, KDHC laid out a plan to enhance corporate value for the second consecutive year, stating its intention to pursue the re-rating of its corporate value through the enhancement of shareholder value, an improvement in corporate governance, and strengthening of profitability.

At the same time, KDHC is striving to secure sustainable growth engines for district energy and implement the Korean government¡¯s thermal energy innovation strategy.

On May 27, KDHC held a meeting of the Working Group for the Decarbonization of District Energy.

The meeting, attended by the President and approximately 40 employees, discussed measures to decarbonize the entire process of thermal energy production, transportation, and consumption by utilizing technologies such as heat pumps and electrode boilers, as well as strategies for transitioning the district energy supply system.

The working group was composed of approximately 40 employees including the president and staff members of the internal management strategy and R&D departments, to establish a future thermal energy strategy that will become the company¡¯s core future growth strategy and to derive specific tasks.

The participants shared various opinions regarding a paradigm shift in the district energy supply system and decided strategic tasks.

They engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to decarbonize the entire process of thermal energy production, transportation, and consumption by utilizing various technologies such as heat pumps and electrode boilers, moving away from the existing fossil fuel-based heat supply system.

¡°Coping with the climate crisis and transitioning to a carbon-free environment are no longer a choice, but an essential task on which KDHC¡¯s survival depends,¡± said Ha Dong-geun, president of KDHC.

¡°Through this working group, we will concentrate our entire corporate capabilities on leading the district energy industry in carbon-free transitions and play a pivotal role in Korea achieving its carbon neutrality goal.¡±

Meeting to Check Up on Emergency Management Results and Discuss Future Directions

KDHC announced that it held a meeting on May 22 to review emergency management performance and discuss future directions presided over by the president to proactively respond to the global economic instability caused by the prolonged Middle East war and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

As international oil prices entered the severe stage, according to its internal contingency plan, KDHC assembled the Emergency Management Team chaired by the president on April 3 and has been making all-out efforts to respond to the crisis, with the team taking the lead.

According to a presentation made in the meeting, KDHC has improved its financial situation through the constant monitoring of its business environments and the execution of tasks by division, and has been faithfully fulfilling its responsibilities as a state-run company in response to the energy crisis.

Specifically, KDHC saved 15.9 billion won through belt-tightening budget management by recovering manageable budgets such as repair and maintenance costs and payment fees early and significantly reduced fuel consumption and material costs through the optimal operation of combined heat and power (CHP) generators.

In addition, the company prevented the risk of purchasing high-priced spot fuel and secured a stable fuel supply through volume swaps via supply and demand management coordination among electric power generation companies.
