Samsung C&T Construction Group Accelerates Efforts to Become Developer of Eco-Friendly New Projects
Ramps up competitiveness by securing profit foundation through business structure encompassing investment and operation, beyond simple construction

30(Thu), Apr, 2026

Dignitaries, including Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment Kim Sung-hwan and Samsung C&T CEO Oh Se-chul, attend a ceremony to dedicate Korea¡¯s first off-grid green hydrogen production facility in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on March 25.

Samsung C&T Construction Group is restructuring its business portfolio to become focused on eco-friendly energies.

The construction arm of Samsung C&T has been repositioning itself as an ¡°eco-friendly energy leader¡± by aggressively securing investment capabilities and carrying out projects in a speedy fashion based on global alliances.

Samsung C&T Construction Group has secured its presence as a leading company as the company has implemented multiple projects in the photovoltaic power and other renewable energy segments.

The company is expanding its business portfolio to next-generation energy sectors, such as green hydrogen and green ammonia.

The ¡°Yona Photovoltaic Power Farm¡± project in Guam, being implemented by Samsung C&T Construction Group was presented with the top prize in the investment business sector at the ¡°2026 Overseas Construction Grand Awards.¡±

The project has been evaluated to have secured competitiveness in the global energy infrastructure market through a business structure encompassing investment, development and operation beyond simple construction.

The Yona solar farm project, awarded by Guam Power Authority (GPA), calls for building a 144-megawatt solar farm and 325MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Yona, south of Guam.

The project will cost $518 million (706.1 billion won). The value of the EPC, being done by Samsung C&T is worth $386 million (706.1 billion won).

Construction, which was launched in May 2025, is to be dedicated in February 2028.

The developers of the project comprise Korea Electric Power Corp. with a 40 percent stake, Korea East-West Power with a 40 percent interest and Samsung C&T with a 20 percent stake.

Samsung C&T is participating in the project as an investor with a 20 percent stake.

For Samsung C&T, the project takes on significance since the contractor has participated as a power generation project investor, departing from the conventional contract-based overseas construction.

Samsung C&T Construction Group has built up a structure of earning profit from both construction and the operation as the sole contractor of the EPC, not ending up as a simple investor.

In an initial stage, Samsung C&T will be allowed to earn profit from both the executing of the EPC and dividends from equity investment related to the long-term operation.

Samsung C&T¡¯s structure is similar to investment developer models being expanded by global contractors.

In 2022, Samsung C&T successfully carried out the 60 MW Mangilao Solar Project in Guam.

With the adding of the latest project, the Korean contractor has been expanding its presence in the market.

Samsung C&T has been ramping up competitiveness by securing profit foundation through a business structure encompassing investment and operation beyond simple construction.

Samsung C&T Completes Korea¡¯s First Off-Grid Green Hydrogen Facility

Samsung C&T¡¯s Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group said on March 25 that it has completed Korea¡¯s first off-grid green hydrogen production facility powered entirely by renewable energy, marking another milestone in the company¡¯s clean energy development efforts.

Located in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the facility produces green hydrogen using solar power without relying on external electricity sources.

The completion ceremony was attended by key government and industry officials, including Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment Kim Sung-hwan, National Assembly Member Song Eon-seok, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongsangbuk-do Yang Geum-hee, Gimcheon Mayor Bae Nak-ho, Daegu Regional Environmental Office Head Cho Eun-hee, Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning President Lee Seung-jae, Korea Hydrogen Alliance Chairman Kim Jae-hong, and Samsung C&T CEO Oh Se-chul.

The project introduces a new off-grid model that produces green hydrogen using 100 percent renewable energy generated from an 8.3MW solar power system.

Through 10MW water electrolysis, the facility can produce approximately 0.6 tons of green hydrogen per day, or more than 230 tons annually.

The hydrogen produced at the site will be supplied to local hydrogen infrastructure, including hydrogen vehicle charging stations, supporting the expansion of clean hydrogen infrastructure and local hydrogen supply.

This project represents Korea¡¯s first off-grid green hydrogen production facility, meaning it generates hydrogen without relying on external power grids.

By directly utilizing renewable energy, the project introduces a new model for green hydrogen production in Korea.

Samsung C&T performed the full EPC scope for the project, including the design, procurement, and construction of solar power systems, electrolyzers, and hydrogen production and storage facilities.

The company also plans to participate in operations and maintenance (O&M) to ensure stable facility operations and continue advancing its technological capabilities.

Through this project, Samsung C&T plans to leverage its experience to expand into overseas green hydrogen projects, while also contributing to the localization of electrolyzers and operational technologies designated as national strategic technologies.
