Kang Seung-jun, vice president for external and international affairs at Seoul National University of Science and Technology has taken office as the 25th chairman of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT).
Chairman Kang laid out his plan to lead corporate growth through policy finance that adheres to fundamental principles.
According to KODIT on Mar. 15, Chairman Kang skipped a separate inauguration ceremony and delivered a management message to employees via the company bulletin board on March 12.
¡°Companies are facing difficulties as global uncertainties intensify due to recent events such as the situation in Iran,¡± Kang said.
¡°I will support companies in overcoming crises and the sustainable growth of the Korean economy through policy finance that adheres to fundamental principles.¡±
¡°We will provide bold, productive financing support for future strategic industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), and pursue policies that leave no one behind through inclusive finance for companies in crisis,¡± Kang emphasized.
¡°KODIT will perform the roles of policy finance steadfastly in any environment through active resources acquisition and strengthened risk management.¡±
¡°I feel both joy and a heavy sense of responsibility in assuming the position of the chairman in the year marking the 50th anniversary of the organization.¡± Kang said.
¡°I will promptly reflect the voices of those in the field on policies and design a new future for the next 50 years as an unwavering reliable partner for corporate growth.¡±
On Mar. 18, KODIT Chairman Kang listens to the voices of those in the field at Youngpoong, an agricultural corporation located in Dalseo-gu of Daegu.
Kang entered the public service in 1991 after passing the 35th Civil Service Examination.
He served in key positions at the Budget Planning Division, the Public Policy Bureau, the Fiscal Management Bureau, and Fiscal Management Part of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
Subsequently, he served as a standing auditor at the Bank of Korea and as a professor at the College of Creative Convergence at Seoul National University of Science and Technology.
MOU on Special Financial Support
KODIT announced on Mar. 12 that it signed a business agreement for special financial support to restore regional economic vitality and expand productive finance in Busan with Busan Bank, Busan City, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the New Entrepreneurs Club.
This agreement was established to revitalize Busan¡¯s economy by increasing financial accessibility, such as by providing preferential financial products to outstanding small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Busan.
Under the agreement, Busan Bank will contribute 10 billion won to KODIT and KODIT will provide agreement guarantees worth approximately 330 billion won using this money.
Eligible recipients include companies in new growth engine industries, companies exporting products or expanding overseas, and local companies.
KODIT applies a 100% guarantee ratio for three years through a special contribution agreement guarantee and provides support by reducing guarantee fees by up to 0.3%.
In addition, through a guarantee fee support agreement guarantee, it supports guarantee fees by up to 0.6% for two years, thereby alleviating financial burdens on companies.
Furthermore, Busan City will provide interest subsidies of 2.0% per year for three years, up to a limit of 800 million won per company.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the New Entrepreneurs Club plan to guide their member companies and local businesses to the program to encourage their participation.
Opening Regular Policy Finance Course at Chonnam National University
KODIT announced on Mar. 5 that it will run a regular policy finance course titled ¡°Understanding Finance for Start-up and SMEs¡± as a regular curriculum at the College of Business Administration at Chonnam National University starting in March.
This course was established to enhance university students¡¯ understanding of policy finance through cooperation with local colleges and universities and to foster talents equipped with practical skills in the fields of startup and SME finance.
KODIT signed a memorandum of understanding for the activation of AI convergence startup support and the cultivation of financial talent with Chonnam National University in September of 2025.
The opening of this regular course is a follow-up measure to that agreement and will be fully promoted starting in the first semester of 2026.
