In his New Year¡¯s message on Jan. 2, Chmn. Kim Seung-youn of Hanwha Group said, ¡°When we own original technologies that will determine the future in core business areas, such as AI and the defense industry, we can continue to move forward for 50 years and 100 years.¡±
Chmn. Kim stressed and the need to take a long-term perspective and concentration to cope with changes nimbly. ¡°Hanwha has become a national representative company leading the defense industry and shipbuilding sectors, and we must step up innovation to secure leading future technologies, not resting on its laurel,¡± he said.
Chmn. Kim said, ¡°States and companies must become partners that will walk the future together with their counterparts to explore new markets, and as for the so-called Make American Shipbuilding Great Again (MASGA) project, Hanwha needs to draw plans and execute them with full responsibility with the Hanwha Philly Shipyard playing a leading role.¡±
He called for both countries to expand the scope and depth of cooperation in the shipbuilding industry by building warships and nuclear-powered submarines as core partners.
Chmn. Kim reaffirmed the win-win management tenet ¡°Together, Far Away¡± the business group has maintained for the past 25 years.
As for the successful launching of the homegrown Nuri rocket, Chmn. Kim said, ¡°We¡¯ve entered space by changing the future Hanwha dreamed of into a reality, and Hanwha has become a key player of the defense industry.¡±

Hanwha Group Chmn. Kim Tours Hanwha Jeju Space Center
Hanwha Group Chmn. Kim Seung-youn toured the Hanwha Jeju Space Center in Seogwipo, Jeju Island, on Jan. 8. Dreaming of the space industry for over 40 years, he said, ¡°Going into space is Hanwha¡¯s mission.¡±
He was accompanied by his eldest son, Hanwha Vice Chmn. Kim Dong-kwan, in charge of the business group¡¯s space business.
The Hanwha Jeju Space Center is the nation¡¯s largest civilian satellite production facility in an area an equivalent to the size of four soccer stadiums.
The center is Hanwha¡¯s core space business facility and is capable of producing eight rockets monthly and up to 100 units yearly. Hanwha Systems , a subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace, spent 100 billion won in building the center, which was dedicated last December.
Chmn. Kim, wearing dust-free garment, looked into major facilities, such as cleanrooms realizing the vacuum of space, extreme low temperatures and extreme high temperatures and an electromagnetic wave test lab and business plans. He had a lunch with Hanwha executives and staffers.
Chmn. Kim said, ¡°Hanwha Jeju Space Center is the present and the future of Hanwha¡¯s huge dream toward space, and your sweat will be a foundation to elevate Korea to a global top five space powerhouse.¡±
