KOEN plans to ramp up a workplace special safety management regime for high-risk places like construction sites

President Kang Ki-yoon of the Korea South-East Power (KOEN) made an inspection tour of a construction site at the Goseong Natural Gas Power Plant, now under construction in Hai-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, on Nov. 7. 

The latest inspection was designed to take a first-hand look at safety management conditions at a construction site as part of efforts to examine the power company¡¯s companywide steps to ensure safety.

Before visiting the construction site, President Kang toured the Integrated Safety Control Center to get an update on danger evaluation and management systems at construction sites. 

He stressed the significance of practical safety management, saying, ¡°Precise management corresponding to real on-site conditions is required, departing from the unified danger evaluation.¡± 

President Kang also toured major process construction sites, such as water and waste treatment facilities, to example whether they abided by work logs and procedures. 

He said, ¡°Safety management cannot be compromised, and if dangerous factors are found, immediate steps need to be taken, and we have to aggressively invest into safety steps.¡± 

With the latest inspections, KOEN plans to ramp up a special safety management regime at high-risk workplaces, like the construction sites, and implement on-site steps designed to prevent serious industrial disasters. 

President Kang said, ¡°As far as safety is concerned, there is no tomorrow, and we have to implement responsible on-site management under a principle of immediately removing dangers found on-sited.¡±

KOEN Selected as Preferred Bidder for ¡®Magok Combined Power Plant Project¡¯

A project to construct a combined cycle power plant in Magok, Seoul, is on a track after long-standing difficulties. Korea South-East Power was selected on Nov. 3 as a preferred negotiator to establish a special purpose company to implement of the Southwest Community Energy Facility Second Phase Project.

The project calls for building a combined power plant capable of producing 285MW of electricity and 195Gcal/h of heat and supplying district heat to 74,000 households in the southwestern sphere of the nation. 

As for being selected as the preferred negotiator of the project, a KOEN official said, ¡°KOEN, which has the nation¡¯s top-level power operation experience and technology, has managed to obtain technological trust by pitching a safe and efficient combined cycle power plant construction and operation plan based on our expertise.¡±

The selection of KOEN as the preferred negotiator takes on significance since the power company has established an important target of securing an energy hub in the Seoul Metropolitan Area and contribute to realizing energy self-sufficiency and carbon neutrality for the city

KOEN plans to establish a special purpose company by mid-2026 after holding 20-day negotiations on the details with Seoul Energy Corp. 

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place in late 2026 after selecting a gas turbine supplier and a construction contractor.
 
The project calls for dedicating the combined power plant by 2031 to cope with a stable supply of heat demand in the Magok rea. 

KOEN President Kang said, ¡°We devote ourselves to contributing to stabilizing district heat supply in the southwestern sphere, and achieving ¡®KOEN Energy Shijakro (New Highway) 2020 Vision¡¯ and fulfilling social responsibility as a public eco-friendly public energy entity by successfully implanting the Southwestern Community Energy Phase II Project.¡±
