The Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources held the 51st National Quality Management Convention at COEX in Seoul on Nov. 19.
The National Quality Management Convention is the nation¡¯s largest and top-quality promotion event.
It made its debut in 1975 to award individuals, companies and organizations recognized for their contributions to the development of national industries through quality management and spread industry circles¡¯ awareness toward quality innovation.
The 2025 National Quality Management Convention is the 51st rendition.
The slogan of this year¡¯s convention is ¡°AI Powerhouse, being Unfurled by Quality and the Republic of Korea Leaping Together,¡± symbolizing Korean industry circles¡¯ determination to achieve a new leap forward and sustainable growth through data and AI-based digital quality innovation amid an industry paradigm shift of the AI era.
The event was attended by some 2,000 people, including prize winners, field workers, quality circles and quality maestros.
The government presented 487 government prizes, including five orders and medals, 18 presidential awards and 13 prime minister¡¯s prizes.
The top coveted Order of Industry Service Merit, Gold Tower, went to Chmn. Yoo Yang-seok of Seoyon E-hwa Co. which has grown into a global company based on quality management and smart manufacturing innovation by building 41 production centers in 10 foreign countries.
President Bae Jun-jip of Dong-A Bestech was presented with the Order of Industrial Service Merit, Silver Tower in recognition of his contribution to localizing cable parts and exploring overseas markets by devoting himself as an SME founder of developing technologies for 48 years.
President Jeong Jong-pyo of DB Insurance won the Order of Industrial Service Merit, Steel Tower in recognition of spearheading quality innovation of the financial service industry through AI-based service innovation.
In a commemorative video speech, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said, ¡°The hidden leaders of Korea¡¯s industry development are owed to efforts by on-site people who have dedicated improvement of quality, and as AI and digital transformation is now making an industry paradigm shift, quality will be a key for opening the future.¡±
KSA Holds ¡®2025 Korea Sustainability Conference¡¯
The Korean Standards Association held the ¡°2025 Korea Sustainability Conference¡± and announced Korea Sustainability Index (KSI) top winners and Korea Readers¡¯ Choice Award (KRCA) winner companies on Nov. 26.
A 2025 KSI survey showed that the core issue of all the industries, selected by stakeholders, was sustainable use of resources.
The same issue chosen by 34 out of 50 industries indicates a rise in social demand for resource efficiency.
The core issue was followed by strengthening corporate management transparency, improving work conditions, pollution and waste management, and strengthening responsibility by the board of directors.
The overall industry average KSI increased slightly to 48.6. By industry, home appliances and daily necessities saw their KSI soar to 57.2 and 56.6, respectively.
KSA Chmn. Moon Dong-min said, ¡°Companies need to make practical outcomes beyond declaring of ESG, and stakeholders¡¯ participation is also essential, and KSA will ramp up roles as a strong partner to exactly convey stakeholders¡¯ demand and market standards.¡±
KSA Holds ¡®2025 KSA Greenhouse Gas Verification Customer Seminar¡¯
The Korean Standards Association held 2025 KSA Greenhouse Gas Verification Customer Seminar, targeting greenhouse gas verification customer companies at the Hotel Samjung in Seoul on Nov. 21.
The seminar was designed to focus on sharing strategies and examples to help companies cope with rapidly changing climate notice and international standard conditions.
KSA has offered the latest policy and technology trends required for the whole processes of emission measurement, reporting and verification to greenhouse gas emission verification customer companies every year.
The latest seminar covered in depth the pending core issues facing companies and public entities, such as expansion of mandatory climate disclosure requirement, the publishing of the international standard ISO 14068-1, discussing of revising the emission trading system and international accreditation system changes.
