Korea Southern Power (KOSPO) released ¡°2035 mid- and long-term management strategies¡± on Nov. 18. The strategies are designed to proactively cope with rapid energy environment changes before they happen and to ramp up a sustainable management system.
Explaining the background of the strategies, KOSPO said, ¡°We¡¯ve started with awareness of the problem that we cannot survive with only our existing portfolio amid the rapidly changing energy paradigm.¡±
KOSPO added that the power company unveiled the strategies to ramp its mid- and long-term competitiveness, and present the direction of future management to inside and outside stakeholders.
Energy policies have prioritized climate change responses in the inauguration of the Climate, Energy and Environment, and the energy transition has been accelerated, including a gradual phase-out of coal-fired power plants and reinforcing of regulations against greenhouse gas emissions and expanding of renewable energies.
KOSPO reestablished the strategic regime balancing the growth and public interests by gathering diverse views from stakeholders, such as working-level departments, cooperative companies and people, in accordance with national tasks, including achieving carbon neutrality, expanding renewable energies and ESG management.
The 2035 strategies consist of tasks to realize future energies for sustainable growth, leading carbon neutrality based on energy transition, realizing ESG management based on public interests and strengthening of performance and efficiency-oriented management innovation.
The power company has upgraded carbon-free power generation, new growth sales, and the greenhouse gas reduction rate out of the top 10 management goals. These reflect the government¡¯s policy trends of accelerating energy transition.
Outstanding among the management goals is achieving the AX ecosystem. KOSPO aims to build an ecosystem that could spread AI technologies and their outcomes in accordance with the government¡¯s willingness to build an AI foundation for all.
Furthermore, KOSPO prioritized actualizing ESG management and management innovation to achieve the management goals of raising energy transition readiness to 3,000MW, and achieving no serious industrial disasters. KOSPO promoted 12 detailed action tasks to achieve the top 10 management goals.

KOSPO Holds Dedication Ceremony for On-Land Wind Power Complex
Korea Southern Power said on Nov. 11 the power company dedicated a power plant complex with 14 4.3MW units, a capacity of 60.2MW, in the Mt. Omi area in Seopo-myeong, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the wind power complex project took place in April 2021, the installation of turbines was finished in July 2023 and the power complex is now in commercial operation following a comprehensive dedication in October 2024.
The Mt. Omi wind power complex is one of the nation¡¯s largest-ever installed with Korean-made wind turbines. The project is the nation¡¯s first convertible bond-type model with residents¡¯ participation that shares proceeds with local governments and neighborhood residents.
The plant is capable of producing some 118GWh, equivalent to 25 percent of Bonghwa County¡¯s total power consumption.
KOSPO President Kim Jun-dong said, ¡°The dedication of the Mt. Omi wind power complex in Bongwha takes on significance in terms of the development of the Korean wind power industry and homegrown technology self-sufficiency.¡±
KOSPO Becomes Nation¡¯s 1st Public Entity to Obtain ¡®Generative AI ISO 42001 Certificate¡¯
Business sources said on Nov. 19 that Korea Southern Power became the nation¡¯s first public entity to have obtained the AI management system international standardization certificate ¡°ISO 42001¡± over a generative AI system developed by the power company on its own.
KOSPO said on Nov. 14 the certification of the whole process encompassing AI design, operation and utilization have proven its responsible AI utilization and an ethics government regime internationally.
The generative AI ¡°KEMI,¡± developed by KOSPO, supports administrative work automation, such as document writing assistance and data-based decision making, and has secured reliability by operating an exclusive in-house model.
With the certification, the power company plans to push ahead with efforts to spread the public AI ecosystem and upgrade AI policies.
