As autumn has arrived, a wildflower complex area of Sudokwon Landfill Management Corp. (SLC), which once was a huge landfill, has now morphed into a chrysanthemum habitat, luring people from the Seoul metropolitan area.
The 2025 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival gets under way for a 14-day run on Oct. 23, lasting until Nov. 5.
The annual festival takes on significance as it encompasses flowers, music and embraces an environmental theme.

During the festival period, organizer SLC said visitors are allowed to enter the site free of admission and parking fees at 10 a.m. and stay until 6 p.m.
The festival has been held in the wildflower complex area, located at Jawonsunhwan-ro, 170, Seo-gu, Incheon City, since 2004. The site has been transformed into an eco-friendly ecological park and cultural space for residents, shedding its past as a waste treatment facility.

The organizer said, ¡°The festival, which had been limited to the lawn plaza, has now been expanded to the inside of the wildflower complex area for wider spectators¡¯ movements.¡±
Spectators are given a chance to appreciate not only a chrysanthemum habitat, but also other autumn flowers, such as yellow cosmos and asters.
Star-shaped topiaries have been installed among chrysanthemums, along with a variety of photo zones, bringing about memorable moments with spectators¡¯ loved ones.

Beyond flowers, the festival encompasses a variety of cultural events on the main stage during the festival period.
The Dreampark Autumn Music Concert is taking with invited singers and arts organizations of the district participating.
There will also be magic performances for family visitors.
Visitors at the ¡°Dreampark Audition¡± are given an opportunity to take the stage to demonstrate their specialties.
The festival has rich experience programs corresponding to the identity of the eco-friendly festival.
They include events for upcycling key rings, flower calligraphy and flower bracelets, and opportunities to allow children to learn about the significance of the environment.
¡°Dreampark Book Yard,¡± an outside library, allows visitors to read books in a relaxing way outdoors. Food courts and food trucks, operated by neighborhood residents, will be waiting to feed hungry spectators.
SLC President Song Byeong-eok said, ¡°We¡¯ve devoted ourselves to establishing the Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival as an autumn festival embracing citizens in the Seoul metropolitan area and neighborhood residents. I hope more and more people come here and make precious memories to acknowledge the importance of nature and the environment at the wild flower complex area, which is decorated with chrysanthemums and flowers.¡±
The wildflower complex, the venue of the festival, has a former burned coal briquette storage yard that has been turned into an environmental attraction through collaboration among SLC and neighborhood residents.
The complex has been reborn as the region¡¯s representative resting place, as it was selected for the list of the top-50 urban woods.
