Korea Power Exchange (KPX) Jeju Headquarters has struck an MOU with the Jeju Global Research Center of Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) on joint research and commercialization of new energy industries and demand management technologies.
KPX and KIER are Jeju¡¯s representative institutions, which have led the island¡¯s energy transition and the expanding of new energy industries.
The signing of the deal is designed to raise a virtual power plant¡¯s (VPP) contribution to Jeju¡¯s power grid and explore joint efforts to secure the flexibility of the power grid.
The VPP is a virtual power plant designed to integrate and manage distributed power resources, such as photovoltaic power, wind power and ESS.
Under the agreement, both sides are expected to cooperate on joint research on the development and verification of distributed power resources integration and control technologies, the development of power grid technologies to cope with energy transition, and responses to future power grid based on distributed energy resources.
Jang Si-ho, head of KPX Jeju Headquarters, said, ¡°Jeju is the nation¡¯s first district in which a real-time market and renewable energy auction system is put in place, and we expect to secure capabilities to operate distributed power resources flexibly in compliance with power grid conditions through the agreement.¡±
Suh Yong-seok, chief of KIER¡¯s Jeju Global Research Center, said, ¡°Energy institutions in the Jeju area are making a variety of efforts to achieve carbon neutrality goals, and we look to create greater synergetic effects through mutual exchanges and cooperation in the future.¡±
KPX Agrees to Build K-EMS in Mongolia, Marking First Step to Entering Global EMS Market
Korea Power Exchange (KPX) is in a full swing to enter the global energy management system (EMS) market. KPX struck an MOU to cooperate in a project to build an EMS with Mongolia¡¯s state-run power grid operator National Dispatching Center (NDC) in Ulan Bator on Sept. 22.
Under the deal, both sides agreed to share Korean-type EMS functions and their operation experiences, conduct joint research into the introducing of an EMS corresponding to Mongolia¡¯s power grids, exchange information and data, raise financial resources for ODA projects, and promote expert exchanges to ramp up capabilities in the market segment.
NDC is a power grid operator under the umbrella of the Mongolian Energy Ministry, which is responsible for planning and operating of power grids.
Uncertainties over the operation of the power gird are on the rise in recent years, and Mongolia is seeking to implement a project on smart energy, and the need to introduce an advanced EMS technology to support it is increasing.
The signing of the MOU was done at the invitation of the Mongolian government. KPX¡¯s delegation toured Mongolia with the National Institute of Green Technology, Korea Electric Research Institute and LS ELECTRIC and participated in a signing ceremony.
The deal takes on significance as it has set up a foothold to enter the global EMS market.
KPX plans to successfully implement a project to build an EMS in Mongolia, based on the excellence of a home-grown EMS, made with the latest technologies, such as AI. It is expected to future ramp up the global competitiveness of the Korean EMS industry.
KPX Acting Chairman Kim Hong-keun said, ¡°The collaboration with NDC not only contributes to modernizing Mongolia¡¯s power gird, but also serves as an opportunity to have the overseas market entry of the K-EMS known, and we will redouble efforts to continue to promote continuous technology exchanges with a variety of countries to globalize the K-EMS.¡±
KPX Obtains International Standard for Compliance Management Systems
Korea Power Exchange, certified with ISO 37301, an international standard for compliance management systems (CMS), is ramping up ethics management.
ISO 37301 is an international standard for compliance management systems. It provides guidelines for establishing, developing, implementing, evaluating, maintaining, and improving an effective and responsive compliance management system within organizations.
KPX held a ceremony to award an ISO 37301 certificate on Sept. 29.
