Shinhan Bank held a groundbreaking ceremony for Shinhan SOL-Bangul Forest with Triple Planet in Bangnae-ri, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do on Sept. 29.
Shinhan SOL-Bangul Forest is a new project launched by Shinhan Bank to support the conservation of terrestrial ecosystems, forests, and biodiversity among the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Triple Planet, an international social venture startup certified by the Bank that has been creating biodiversity forests domestically and internationally for the past 15 years.
The name Shinhan SOL-Bangul Forest combines the meanings of Shinhan Bank¡¯s flagship brand, ¡°SOL,¡± and pinecones of Korean firs.

The goal is not to create a one-time event, but to have Shinhan Bank employees directly create a sustainable biodiverse forest.
Shinhan Bank has designated the Korean fir, a conifer native to Korea and listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, as a key conservation species.
Native to the alpine regions of Mount Halla, the Korean fir is gradually disappearing due to climate change.
Therefore, Shinhan Bank will create an alternative habitat in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, to support the conservation and research of the endangered species.
Shinhan SOL-Bangwool Forest will be established over three years, ending in 2027.
This year, the bank will begin planting Korean fir and improving trails in the forest.
The bank will continue to expand the biodiversity of the forest through additional Korean fir planting, expanding wildflower trails, and operating participatory an ecological experience program.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Shinhan Bank employees personally planted Korean firs, adding to the significance of a ¡°forest created together.¡±
They also toured the forest, personally experiencing the value of climate crisis responses and conservation efforts.
