KB Kookmin Bank has comprehensively strengthened its Voice Phishing Prevention System to effectively counter increasing voice phishing crimes and minimize damage to customers.
The bank¡¯s key measures included strengthening human resources and enhancing the voice phishing monitoring system.
First of all, the bank increased the number of its voice phishing monitoring staff from 11 to 25 in August.
The additional personnel are performing core monitoring tasks for voice phishing prevention and analyzing surging crime patterns for detection.
KB Kookmin Bank will continue to enhance its AI-based voice phishing monitoring system.
The system has enhanced its capabilities to enable AI to independently analyze cases, proactively identify suspicious transaction patterns and take preventive measures such as swift account payment suspensions, thereby significantly boosting the effectiveness of preemptive damage prevention.
Following the government¡¯s Voice Phishing AI Platform this October, the system is expected to enable more sophisticated and customized detection per customer as data accumulates.
Through monitoring, KB Kookmin Bank prevented 1,306 fraudulent accounts and approximately 22.5 billion won in damage during August alone.
¡°Voice phishing is a serious issue that causes social harm beyond being a simple financial crime,¡± a KB Kookmin Bank official said.

7th Future Finance A.I. Challenge Awards
KB Kookmin Bank held the 7th Future Finance A.I. Challenge Awards on Sept. 11.
The Future Finance A.I. Challenge has been held annually since 2019 to discover future financial ideas utilizing artificial intelligence and to increase outstanding talents¡¯ interest in financial AI.
This year¡¯s competition was themed ¡°Financial Services and Ideas Utilizing AI Technology.¡±
The event saw participation from over 130 teams nationwide. After preliminary rounds, 10 teams advanced to the finals, engaging in fierce competition.
The final judging panel, comprising KB Kookmin Bank experts and executives from various IT companies, comprehensively evaluated ideas¡¯ utility and technical completeness. A total of five teams took home prizes.
The finals and awards ceremony was held at Ewha Womans University¡¯s ECC Lee Sam-bong Hall.
It served as the second part of the 2025 International Conference. Prize-winning teams received a total prize pool of 28 million won in prize money.
Their members will be granted exemptions from document screening and coding tests for KB Kookmin Bank¡¯s ICT division recruitment.
¡°The capabilities and technologies demonstrated by participants in this contest will serve as a driving force which will brighten the future of South Korea¡¯s financial industry,¡± a KB Kookmin Bank official said.

2025 KB IT¡¯s Your Life Hackathon
KB Kookmin Bank successfully concluded the 2025 KB IT¡¯s Your Life Hackathon, which ran for three days from Sept. 10 to 12.
KB IT¡¯s Your Life is a talent development program which KB Kookmin Bank has operated since 2022 as part of the bank¡¯s flagship social contribution initiative ¡°KB Dream Wave 2030.¡±
It aims to strengthen young people¡¯s SW/AI capabilities and enhance their employment competitiveness with dreams in the IT field.
This hackathon saw 111 participants from 20 teams, all graduates of ¡®KB IT¡¯s Your Life¡¯ who passed the preliminary round, undertake financial IT projects utilizing the knowledge and skills acquired during the program.
Under the theme ¡®Software That Changes the World¡¯, Participants, selected one of three small business support areas.
The three were Smart Financial Assistant for MZ Generation, Support Service for the Financially Disadvantaged, Support for Small Business Owners.
They personally implemented entire processes from planning to development and service implementation, developing and making presentations on new financial services.
Following judging, one team received the Grand Prize, one team the Excellence Prize, three teams the Merit Prize and fifteen teams the Encouragement Prizes. All winning teams took home certificates and cash prizes.
