Shinhan Bank announced that, as the lead financial manager for the Great Train eXpress (GTX)¡¯s Line B Private Investment Project, the bank completed the arrangement of a total financing package worth 3.087 trillion won and held a project finance agreement ceremony on Sept. 15.

Attendees at the signing ceremony included officials of Shinhan Bank as the lead financial arranger, and Kyobo Life Insurance, financial investors and lenders and Daewoo Engineering & Construction as the lead construction investor.

The GTX-B Line is a metropolitan high-speed railway construction project connecting Incheon¡¯s Songdo Incheon University Station to Maseok in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province.

It will span a total of 82.8 kilometers. Following construction, it will operate the metropolitan railway network for 40 years.

Construction commenced in earnest in August after submitting a commencement report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The railway is scheduled to open in 2031.

After opening, it is expected to significantly contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in the metropolitan area and shorten travel times between the two areas.

Shinhan Bank added that the signing of this financial agreement resolves concerns raised by some people about project delays due to an increase in construction costs, enabling the project to go according to the planned schedule.

¡°The GTX-B Line is a core transportation infrastructure in the Seoul metropolitan area, connecting Incheon, central Seoul, and northeastern Gyeonggi-do,¡± Shinhan Bank president Jung Sang-hyeok said.

¡°After opening, it will greatly contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in the Seoul metropolitan area and shortening travel time. Shinhan Bank will continue to provide the best financial support and cooperation for the successful completion of this project.¡±

Participation in BioBlitz Korea 2025

Shinhan Bank announced on Sept. 15 that it successfully concluded BioBlitz Korea 2025 held for 24 hours from Sept. 13 to 14 in a UNESCO biosphere reserve of Gwangneung Forest in Gyeonggi-do, in collaboration with the Korea National Arboretum under the Korea Forest Service and the World Wide Fund (WWF).

BioBlitz is an exploration activity where biological experts and the general public collaborate to identify and record diverse species within a specific area. In Korea, the National Arboretum first introduced and hosted the event in 2010. Since then, thousands of species have been discovered, establishing it as Korea¡¯s most prestigious biodiversity event.

This survey confirmed a total of 1,084 species — 351 plant species, 375 insect species, 140 mushroom species, 30 spider species, and 188 other species.

Notably, it also achieved the discovery of two previously unrecorded species in Gwangneung Forest, marking their first documentation.

This year¡¯s event aimed to promote citizen science and raise people¡¯s awareness of biodiversity conservation by running both exploration programs and a biological information-sharing walk program.

Participants gained hands-on experience in survey techniques and taxonomic knowledge through direct exploration activities.

Awards like the MVP and Best Photo Prizes further enhanced prize winners¡¯ sense of achievement and the enjoyment of the event.

This presented a model for simultaneously practicing environmental protection and biodiversity conservation by operating the entire event process in a carbon-neutral manner.

College Student Ambassador Ceremony

Shinhan Bank announced on Aug. 28 that it held the launch ceremony for the 43rd Shinhan Bank College Student Ambassadors (SBCSAs).

Shinhan Bank pioneered the banking sector by introducing an external activity program for university students in September 2004, having produced over 3,900 graduates to date.

Over the past 21 years, Shinhan Bank and its SBCSAs have played a role in promoting Shinhan Bank¡¯s brand value with fresh perspectives through activities such as event planning and participation and creating original content.

This time, Shinhan Bank selected 100 college students from across the country, chosen through document screening and interviews for their communication skills, empathy, and creative ideas.

After completing the launch ceremony, the 43rd class will begin full-fledged activities at Shinhan Bank¡¯s training center, Blue Campus, participating in various programs including lectures on SBCSAs¡¯ roles and brand strategy, teamwork enhancement programs and mentoring by senior members.
