The Incheon City government said the municipal government plans to explore future development momentum to become a global top 10 city by making the most of a five-year national administration plan of the new government and 123 policy tasks, announced by the Presidential Committee on Policy and Planning (PCPP) on Aug. 13.
In particular, Incheon City plans to prioritize a core task of being a global leader in the innovative economy sector, one of the new government¡¯s top five policy agendas.
The AI task calls for making Korea a nation capable of using AI at its disposal and securing AI super difference technology and manpower.
Earlier, Incheon City released an AI innovation vision of ¡®humanity-oriented AL co-existence city on Aug. 4 and Incheon¡¯s future innovation in core technology areas, such as physical AI and manufacturing AI.
Incheon plans to solidify the city¡¯s standing as the nation¡¯s No. 2 economic city based on an AI-oriented city.
Incheon also strives to make efforts to grow the bio specialized complex, a global bio lead city, into a super metropolitan mega cluster.
The municipal government seeks to build a quantum and bio convergence cluster and being designed as a advanced medical convergence complex in accordance with the expansion of the government R&D budget.
Incheon is expected to play a leading role in the restructuring of the economic structure for renewal energy-oriented energy paradigm shift and carbon neutrality.
The city is implementing off-shore power generation projects with the nation¡¯s No. 3 capacity and it plans to implement the public sector-initiated new off-shore power projects with a 2GW capacity.
The city, equipped with the world¡¯s largest liquefied hydrogen production facilities, is an optimal destination to spearhead into the future hydrogen energy sector.
The municipal government is expected to gain momentum in the implementation of SOC projects and R&D projects through expanded fiscal institutional restructuring, such as fiscal decentralization in the balanced growth sector and institutional restructuring such as R&D project preliminary feasibility exemption.
Incheon is expected to gain momentum to implement projects such as the building of an infectious disease hospital and a second medical center through tasks for resolving district divide and expanding essential medical care and public medical buildup in the strong social foundation sector.
Incheon has worked out seven public pledges and regional public pledges of 15 detailed tasks while communicating with the PCPP and details are to be announced by the Presidential Committee for Decentralization and Balanced Development.
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, ¡°The national policy tasks are expected as serve as an opportunity to solve Incheon¡¯s pending issues and promote practical cooperation with the central government, and we expect the earlier holing of central and regional cooperation committee meetings so that local governments can serve as state affairs partners of the central government.¡±
Incheon Mayor Yoo Meets DPM-MOEF Minister Koo to Request Support for Incheon¡¯s 3 Core Projects
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok had a meeting with DPM-Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yoon-cheol at the Seoul Government Complex in downtown Seoul on Aug. 7 and requested for budgetary reflection for Incheon¡¯s major pending issues.
During the meeting, Mayor Yoo said even though Incheon is the nation¡¯s transportation center with a top-tier international airport and sea port and free economic zone, the city badly needs the east-west axis transportation network connecting Seoul and the expanded north-south axis transportation network linking provincial areas.
Mayor Yoo asked for DPM Koo to provide support for a KTX project connecting Incheon, a metropolitan bus quasi-public entity transition and subsidy assistance.
Incheon Mayor Meets with MOIS Minister and Foreign Minister
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok met with Minister Yun Ho-jung of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and Foreign Minister Cho Hyun at the Seoul Government Complex on Aug. 7.
The meeting was arranged in the capacity of Mayor Yoo, serving as the chairman of the Governors Association of the Republic of Korea (GAROK).
Mayor Yoo asked for solving major pending issues and cooperation from the central government from Incheon City and GAROK levels.
The meeting with the MOIS minister took up four topics, such as the government¡¯s fiscal support related to the reorganizing of administrative systems, supporting of compensation funds for residents of damage, caused by North Korea¡¯s propaganda broadcasts.
The meeting with the foreign minister handled proposal for subsidizing the 24th World Korean Business Convention (WKBC) and cooperation for hosting of an international event to celebrate Incheon Landing Operation.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Takes Office as KWWA Chairman
Incheon Mayor Yoo was officially inaugurated as the 13th chairman of the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association (KWWA) on Aug. 5.
His term is three years until July 2028. KWWA, a public entity under the umbrella of the Environment Ministry, is responsible for tap water and sewage technology research, evaluation, certification and the hosting of Water Korea, a water fair.
