President of Song Sang-geun of the Busan Port Authority (BPA), celebrating 50 days in office on April 1, declared ¡°new management tasks,¡± where he called for nimble organization, flexible thinking and gifted manpower.
The task of making an organization nimble is designed to respond to customers¡¯ needs fast.
To this end, BPA plans to aggressively sound out customers¡¯ views, solve any pending issues and raise the efficiency of the operation of the port by offering customer-oriented services.
The task of flexible thinking is designed to predict a variety of pending issues and proactively cope with them.
It aims to promote sustainable growth of the entity by overcoming changes in the global port industry and new tasks.
The task of gifted manpower is designed to raise staff members¡¯ global capabilities, such as work expertise, the understanding of laws and capabilities of coping with environment changes.
BPA plans to focus on manpower development by expanding continuous educational programs and using global cooperation networks to establish itself as a global port operation leader.
BPA President Song, declaring the new management tasks at on the same day, said, ¡°The management tasks are the first step of our preparations for making a leap forward anew based on the achievements BPA has made in the past 21 years, and BPA will raise the competitiveness of Busan Port through nimble organization, flexible thinking and gifted manpower.¡±
BPA Declares Management-Labor Joint ¡®Safety and Health Management Tasks¡¯
The management and workers of the Busan Port Authority declared their joint safety and health management tasks on April 1.
The joint safety and health management tasks observe statues to prevent safety accidents, establish danger evaluation and self-discipline preventive regimes, spread voluntary safety awareness, implement health promotion activities, amend safety blind spots and strengthen response capabilities, and establish cooperative safety management regimes.
The safety and health management tasks are determined by reflecting workers¡¯ diverse views based on close cooperation between labor and management.
BPA President Song Sang-geun said, ¡°The joint statement, announced with the head of the trade union, is designed to deliver a strong message we share the common goals toward workers¡¯ safety and health, and all executives and staff members should have responsibility to make Busan Port safe.¡±

BPA Holds Emergency Meeting with Shipping Liners and Terminal Operators
The Busan Port Authority had an emergency meeting with ocean liners and terminal operators on April 4 to cope with U.S. tariff measures, going into force on April 9.
Busan Port, the last port of the regular container line route for the United States, is a strategic port hub in which export cargoes can be shipped just before the reciprocal tariffs take into effect.
BPA convened the latest meeting to ramp up cooperation with industries so that export cargo owners¡¯ shipping schedules may not be disrupted.
In a morning session, a meeting with branch heads of shipping liners discussed ways of minimizing risks, caused by the U.S. tariffs and response strategies to ensure the stable operation of piers.
In an afternoon session, a meeting with terminal operators discussed ways of sharing shipping and departure schedules for the regular cargo line route for the United States and ways of promoting the efficiency of the operation of the port to prevent terminal snarls.
BPA President Song Sang-geun said, ¡°BPA will closely cooperation with the government, shipping liners and terminal operators to take preemptive steps against rapidly changing commercial environment conditions.¡±
