Frontloads 6.7 trillion won to lead public entities¡¯ execution of investments

Amid continued price hikes and delays in the restoration of consumer sentiment, Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) is implementing a variety of policies to provide support to restore public livelihoods by frontloading the execution of its investments and offering support to small businesses and SMEs. 

KEPCO plans to execute 11.9 trillion won in investments, the larges-ever spending, in 2025. 

The figure represents a rise of 2.2 trillion won over 9.7 trillion won in the previous year. 

The power company will frontload 6.7 trillion won, 57 percent of this year¡¯s planned total investment amount. In the first quarter of the year, KEPCO has executed 3.8 trillion won, 900 billion won more than the first quarter target of 2.9 billion won, leading public entities¡¯ executing of investments.

In accordance with the government¡¯s policies to restore the people¡¯s livelihoods, KEPCO will close the cafeteria of KEPCO headquarters twice per week, persuading its 2,000 executives and staffers to eat outside, boosting sales of neighborhood businesses. 

KEPCO has been prioritizing the purchase of products made by occupants of special support areas, such as the Energy Valley. 

KEPCO executives and staffers are encouraged to use Onnuri gift certificates with their pay or in the course of carrying out their social contribution activities. 

The power company has come up with a variety of support projects, like raising the cap of the special support of electricity charges for small businesses from 200,000 won to 250,000 won, annually, and supporting 40 percent of the costs of purchasing first-grade high-efficiency instruments. 

KEPCO is devoting itself to fulfilling its social responsibility as a public entity by executing the largest-ever investment as soon as possible, and is helping to restore the public¡¯s livelihoods by expanding support to small businesses and SMEs.

KEPCO Ramps Up Cooperation in Nuclear Power and New Energy with Vietnam

KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol visited Vietnam from April 11 to 14 and discussed with the Vietnamese government and state-run company officials ways of promoting a wide range of cooperation in the nuclear power and new energy business sectors. 

KEPCO successfully wrapped up a workshop on nuclear power and new power technology partnership in Hanoi with some 70b government officials of both countries and officials from KEPCO and ¡°Team Korea¡± organizations related to the nuclear power sectors in attendance on April 11. 

KEPCO and other ¡°Team Korea¡± member companies explained the experiences of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Project in the United Arab Emirates and its outcomes as well as matters such as the structure of the nuclear power sector, Vietnam¡¯s major focus area, financing, manpower development and technology transfer, and both sides discussed them. 

KEPCO attended a meeting of the Korea-Vietnam Joint Industry Committee, a ministry-level consultation body of the two countries, on April 14 and met with ranking Vietnamese government and industry officials to express Korea¡¯s intent to participate in the Vietnamese nuclear power project. 

During the meeting, KEPCO struck an MOU on the power grid and new energy sectors with EVNNPT, jointly ramping up cooperation in the overall power grid sector such as high-voltage directional currents and the construction and operation of AC transmission networks. 

KEPCO had meetings with Vietnam¡¯s major state-run energy company chairmen to strengthen partnerships between the two countries.

KEPCO officials had a meeting with Vice Chairperson Nguyen Thi Thanh of the Vietnamese National Assembly to listen to Vietnam¡¯s parliamentary progress on the introduction of nuclear power. 

KEPCO¡¯s side expressed their intent to enter the nuclear power and new technology sectors and asked for the parliament¡¯s proactive support. 

KEPCO President Kim said, ¡°Amid the rising importance in the role of nuclear power globally, Vietnam¡¯s policy of introducing nuclear power is considered to be timely, and Korea is the optimal partner with the world¡¯s top-tier technology power and business capabilities.¡±

¡°KEPCO has dramatically improved the operation efficiency of facilities using a variety of new technologies encompassing power generation, transmission and distribution sectors, thus securing the world¡¯s top-tier power supply capabilities. And we expect to expand cooperation with Vietnam in new business areas based on this technology prowess,¡± he added.
