KPX Sees BESS Bidding Tenders Surge 8.3-Fold
Korea Power Exchange is making bids on 540MW from the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Central Contract Market in late April.
The figure represents an 8.3-fold jump over the previous one, standing at 65MW.
KPX held a session to explain the BESS Central Contract Market for the first half of this year in Seoul and Jeju from April 9 to 14.
The BESS Central Contract Market refers to a market in which BESS owners sell electricity.
The market has emerged as the significance of BEES is getting higher due to rising renewal energies with generation fluctuations.
The market has a concept in which electricity, generated by photovoltaic power plants are stored up at BESS during daytime, and the stored electricity is sold at night when generation drops.
The latest bidding session of the market is to open not only in Jeju, but also in the Honam area. Bidding tenders for the Honam area and Jeju stand at 500MW and 40MW, respectively.
A finalized tender notice was approved by the Central Contract Market Committee, reflecting BEES owners¡¯ views, and preferred negotiators will be selected in late July, following a 10-week notice period after a bidding notice was placed in late April.
Jo Se-cheol, head of the Forward Market at KPX, said, ¡°We will continue to improve the BESS Central Contract Market through multifaceted consideration, such as business owners¡¯ views and experts¡¯ discussions, and we expect explanation sessions targeting business owners to help would-be participants of the BESS Central Contract Market.¡±
KPX Introduces ¡®Clean Insider¡¯ to Spread Integrity Awareness
Korea Power Exchange said on Feb. 25 it was introducing a ¡°clean insider system¡± to spread field-oriented integrity awareness.
¡°Clean insiders¡± comprise of MZ generation officials, marking less than four years in office. Staffers volunteer to conduct integrity activities under the catchphrase ¡°Open Communication, Expanding Participation and Higher Integrity.¡±
Specifically, clean insiders are responsible for exploring their department¡¯s integrity danger factors and proposing steps to improve them.
They plan to spread integrity awareness by reflecting on each department¡¯s characteristics and building networks of integrity and related institutions and effective communication channels between staff and management.
KPX has a blueprint to make the clean insider system recognized as a core factor of organizational competitiveness, not making integrity simply a regulatory duty and inducing bottom-up integrity awareness by reflecting staffers¡¯ views into integrity policies directly.
KPX Chmn. Jung Dong-hee said, ¡°The clean insider system is a field-oriented participatory system that can induce practical changes through integrity activities tailored to meet each department¡¯s characteristics, and we expect it to serve as an opportunity to have all staff members armed with master¡¯s spirit and create a corporate culture with open communication and transparent organization.¡±
