KB Kookmin Bank is practicing win-win finance under the theme of helping Korea addressing its low birthrate, which has emerged as a big national issue.
Lee Hwan-joo, CEO of KB Kookmin Bank, participated in the ¡®Relay Challenge to Overcome the Declining Birthrate¡¯ to create a good environment for raising children.
The campaign aims to spread a family-friendly corporate culture and create a positive social atmosphere for childbirth and child rearing.
Lee participated in the challenge with employees from KB Kookmin Bank¡¯s Deposit Products Department, who created KB I Love Savings Fund to support the campaign¡¯s goal of helping Korea overcome its low birthrate issue.
The I Love Savings product is designed for working mothers who are raising children, and was selected by the Financial Supervisory Service as an excellent example of a new financial product for win-win growth and cooperation.
KB Kookmin Bank has put in place a variety of employee welfare programs for work-life balance and helping Korea address its low birthrate issue.
These include birth incentives, enhanced support for infertility medical expenses, expanded spousal maternity leaves, reduced working hours during employees¡¯ child-rearing periods and a conditional retirement program for rehiring employees who left the bank in order to take care of their children.
A KB Kookmin Bank employee, whose wife gave birth to their first child, will receive 10 million won, their second child 15 million won, and their third child 20 million won.
The conditional exit program for rehiring employees who left the bank to take care of their children allows a total of five years of parental leave for employees who used up their two-year parental leave periods, by providing rehiring opportunities after three years upon their retirements.
When rehired, the employees will retain their pre-exit positions without separate recruitment processes, getting rid of their career gaps.
Recently, KB Kookmin Bank held a meeting under the theme of Excellent Companies for Work-Life Balance at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, together with the Committee for the Low Birthrate and Elderly Society under the Korean government.
The committee visits companies which take the lead in promoting work-family balance to encourage employees, explain the Korean government¡¯s low birthrate policy directions and listen to their opinions.
¡°We need more companies like KB Kookmin Bank to introduce innovative systems to balance work-life balance,¡° a committee official said.
