KEPCO KDN participated in the Korea Smart Grid Expo 2025, which took place at COEX, Seoul, from Feb. 12 to Feb. 14.
The fair, celebrating the 15th rendition, attracted some 280 Korean and foreign major leaders, including KEPCO KDN, Korea Electric Power Corp., LS ELECTRIC and LG Energy Solution.
The exhibition coincided with ELECS (Electric Energy Conference & Show) KOREA 2025.
KEPCO KDN introduced three power distribution system technology solutions, including Feeder Remote Terminal Unit (FRTU), renewal energy surveillance systems and a communication bridge for a distribution automation system.
FRTU, produced by KEPCO KDN, is a core terminal unit of the distribution automation system. It is used to acquire data in distribution lines and watching and controlling of switches.
FRTU has seen file transmission speed improve by adding security technology and TCP/IP communication functionality to the conventional terminal unit.
FRTU has been in place and in operation at distribution automation system sites, operated by Korea Electric Power Corp., contributing to a stable power supply and top tier quality.
The renewal energy surveillance and control system is designed to support stable connectivity of diverse renewable energies as well as the power grid. It¡¯s also intended to solve the problem of declining power quality in power lines, caused by related distributed generation sources.
The AWB/PLC is a communication relay device for on-the-spot surveillance of the distribution system, designed to solve communication shadows in areas in which optical communication cables cannot be laid.
The solution is developed in consideration of diverse distribution environmental conditions, such as overhead line wireless communication relay devices and underground line PLC communication relay devices. The AWB/PLC has been verified and expanded on several times, in doing so contributing to the foundation business in the distribution system sector KEPCO KDN has been implementing.
A KEPCO KDN official said, ¡°We¡¯re making our utmost to stabilize power supply through distribution system and renewal energy solutions developed by KEPCO KDN, and KEPCO KDN strive to be an energy ICT platform public entity that supports people¡¯s stable energy use through future prediction and improvement, such as the latest effective analysis and utilization of energy data using AI.¡±
