IIAC held the declaration ceremony as part of efforts to build an ethical AI utilization environment and realize the safe and convenient operation of the airport.

In particular, the corporation aimed to establish a model within the public sector, as all relevant organizations across the entire airport ecosystem collaborated to implement AI ethical principles, rather than merely issuing a unilateral declaration.

IIAC established three AI principles realizing of user-oriented values, responsible digital innovation, and sustainable growth through cooperation.

They also developed eight core requirements, including respect of diversity, convenience, safety, security, responsibility, full cooperation, continued quality management and sustainability.

In accordance with the ¡°Incheon Airport AI roadmap,¡± established based on the principles last September, IIAC plans to offer safe and convenient experiences tailored to meet the needs of travelers.

This will be achieved by promoting digital transformation across all airport sectors, including the establishment of an AI-driven smart work environment, the operation of a highly personalized digital terminal, and the introduction of a digital terminal.

IIAC President Lee Hag-jae stated, ¡°With the establishment of the AI ethical system, Incheon Airport is expected to provide safer and more convenient services. Moving forward, we will introduce a new paradigm of passenger services through ongoing commitment and investment in the advancement of AI technologies.¡±

IIAC Launches Contest for Aviation AI Hub Development Project Proposal

Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) announced on February 26 that it will conduct a contest inviting proposals for the establishment of an AI innovation hub at Incheon Airport.

This initiative aims to create a manpower and industry-centered airport convergence city centered around the airport, in alignment with the core objectives of the "Vision 2040" strategy unveiled by IIAC last year.

The proposal contest calls for building an aviation AI data center and an aviation R&D business center, and establishing an aviation industry ecosystem in cooperation with global big tech companies, startups and venture companies.

IIAC is to decide whether to implement the project after confirming technology capabilities and vision for shifting the operation of the airport into a digital model and ecosystem development capability through cooperating among industry, academia and research circles and sustainable development strategies and consulting them with the government. Participants are required to submit proposals by March 24.

As airports in the United States and Europe are accelerating AI-based innovation in cooperation with big tech companies, IIAC plans to lead the global aviation industry standards by developing an aviation AI innovation hub.

IIAC President Lee said, ¡°The development of an aviation AI innovation hub is designed to build an ecosystem in which bid data-based AI solutions are employed in the whole of the operation of the airport, and it is a project to spearhead into the global aviation industry.¡±

IIAC will continue to communicate with the government so that Incheon Airport can continue to have the upper hand in competitiveness, and can contribute to making Korea a global top-three AI powerhouse, he said.
