Chairman Moon Dong-min of the Korean Standards Association (KSA) said, ¡°KSA will offer steps to cope with the global competitiveness and future response solutions.¡±
Moon, a former standing commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission, was elected as KSA chairman at an extraordinary general meeting at the DT Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on Nov. 21.
KSA Chmn. Moon graduated from Seoul National University¡¯s Economics Department and obtained a master¡¯s degree from Graduate School of Public Administration, Seoul National University.
He passed the 38th higher administrative examination in 1955 and began his public service career.
Chmn. Moon held positions, such as the Europe and America Cooperation Team at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), director in industry technology development at MOTIE, director in charge of steel and chemicals at MOTIE, direction in charge of industry policy at MOTIE, a commercial attach at Korean Embassy in Japan, director-general in industry policy at MOTIE, and deputy minister in trade and investment at MOTIE.
He has been credited with contributing to establishing policies on inside and outside industries and trade and commerce.
KSA Chmn. Moon, an expert with an in-depth understanding of the steel segment by serving as KTC¡¯s standing commission and inside and outside industry and commerce countermeasure response capabilities, is expected to contribute to establishing response steps in the steel industry.
Of late, KSA has helped the Korean steel industry take trade countermeasures, such as writing of a document on emission verification views of EU¡¯s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
KSA Chmn. Moon said, ¡°We want to offer support so that companies can overcome global economic and political uncertainties and instability and achieve a sustainable growth, and KSA will present solutions for the spread of AI, climate change and other pending future issues.¡±
KSA Supports Small Businesses¡¯ Comeback
The Korean Standards Association struck an agreement on relaunching startups and improving the management of small businesses with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) on Feb. 14.
The KSA, with a regional headquarters in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do, has been designated as a manger in the Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do area of the ¡°Hope Return Package Comeback Commercialization Project.¡±
The project is designed to give a leg-up to small businessmen who is facing a management crisis and want to make a comeback following the cessation of business.
Under the project, 486 small businessmen wanting to support the improving of their management and 209 others wanting to make a comeback will be offered with support.
As for comeback commercialization, recipients will be finalized after they undergo a diagnosis on improving management and relaunching the businesses.
The finalized recipients will receive exclusive project managers¡¯ mentoring and education on executing comeback on top of up to 20 million won in a commercialization fund.
KSA Chmn. Moon said, ¡°Under the project, we will do our best to provide support so that many small businessmen can make a comeback and relaunch startups.¡±

The Korean Standards Association struck an MOU on establishing and operating a remicon (ready mixed concrete) management regime with the Gyeongin Remicon Business Association on Feb. 17.
The deal calls for supporting the settlement of a specialized remicon quality management system corresponding to customers¡¯ quality demand that gets diversified through establishment of an organic cooperative regime with the Gyeongin Remicon Business Association.
KSA, KS¡¯s representative certification and quality management institution, plans to develop and supply specific education program designed to ramp up expertise of remicon quality management manpower and establish an AI-based remicon quality management system.
