Korea Expressway Corp. (KEC) plans to award construction projects whose value is estimated at more than 5 trillion won this year.

The corporation plans to place four new expressway projects, including an expressway connecting Gyeyang and Gangwha, in late 2025.

KEC said on Jan. 9 the number of construction projects to be launched this year totals 570.

The value of the projects is estimated at 5,439.5 billion won.

They include 16 large-sized projects, whose combined value stands at 4,516.7 billion.

Orders on the first to third sections of an expressway route connecting Busan New Port and Gimhae are to be placed in April. The first, second and third sections will cost 393 billion won, 294.2 billion won and 272 billion won, respectively.

KEC plans to place orders on the first to fourth sections of the Sejong-Cheongju expressway, costing 1,083.6 billion won, and the first to third sections of the Ulsan ring expressway, costing 869.6 billion won in October.

The value of the second section of each expressway will cost some 300 billion won, the largest.

Orders on the first to sixth sections of the Gyeyang -Ganghwa expressway are to be placed in late 2025.

The second section of the expressway will cost 491.3 billion won, this year¡¯s largest one.

But orders on the first and second expansion portions of the Seocheonju-Jeungpyeong expressway, scheduled to be placed last year, are not on the list of orders for this year.

The expansion project for the Seocheonju-Jeungpyeong expressway is undergoing an actual design.

The project has been punted back due to the government¡¯s consultation over its rising cost.

The implementation of the Dangjin-Asan expressway project is uncertain, as it failed to obtain the go-ahead in the rescreening of a feasibility by the fiscal project evaluation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) last year.

Among the 10 projects to be implemented this year, each costing more 10 billion won is a project to improve Gyeongbu Line Pangyo e-Hub and Daewangpangyo IC, costing 42.3 billion won, to be placed in January, a project improving new structures between Gangjin and Gwangju, costing 16 billion in June, a new construction project between Sejong and Anseong, costing 16 billion won, in June, a new construction project between Hapcheon and Changnyeong, costing 16 billion won in June, a repaving project of the first to third parts of the Busan-Dangjin section of the West Coast Line, costing 60 billion in September, the first and second parts of the Seongju-Nakdong section of the Jungbu Inland Line, 40 billion won in September.

KEC plans to commission 618 consulting services worth a combined 764.1 billion won this year.

Among the technology service projects, costing more than 10 billion won, are 2025 structure safety diagnosis and performance evaluation, costing 40.1 billion won, to be placed in January, 2025 bridge quake-proof performance evaluation and quake-proof reinforcement design engineering, costing 12 billion won, to be placed in April, and an actual design engineering for the Seopyeongtaek-Ansan expansion project of the East Coast Line, costing 29.4 billion won, to be placed in December.
