S-OIL will construct a 121MW natural gas turbine generator (GTG) facility, a step to improve energy efficiency and realize carbon neutrality.
The construction of the self-supplier will cost some 263 billion won. Work starts in February, and the facility will be dedicated in December 2026.
The natural gas turbine generator facility will be responsible for supplying some 24 percent of the electricity being consumed by S-OIL.
A heat recovery stream generator will generate 160 tons of high-temperature and high-pressure steam for reutilization.
The project effectively greatly reduces the operation of the conventional steam production boilers for energy retrenchment and improving air conditions.
In particular, all electricity, being produced by the self-supplier facility, will be consumed by S-OIL, thus contributing to stabilizing power supply in the Ulsan area.
The self-supplier facility is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, saving power transmission and distribution losses and ramp up energy efficiency in compliance with national energy policies.
S-OIL plans to contribute to reinvigorating the economy of the Ulsan area and creating jobs through the construction of the self-supplier facility.
The refinery company plans to expand job opportunities by hiring neighborhood residents on a preferred basis and explore diverse cooperation steps for sustainable growth of the area.
Meanwhile, S-OIL struck a contract on investments into a natural gas turbine generator project with Ulsan Metropolitan City at City Hall on Jan. 23.
President Park Bong-soo of S-OIL said, ¡°The construction of a self-supplier power facility is possible thanks to Ulsan Metropolitan City¡¯s administrative support and cooperation, and the facility will be a foundation for contributing to S-OIL¡¯s pursuit of global sustainability and expanding decentralized power sources.¡±
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyum said, ¡°I extend thanks to S-OIL¡¯s decision to make a precious investment for power stability and environment improvement in the Ulsan area, and Ulsan Metropolitan City will not spare administrative and financial support on top of establishing an exclusive support regime so that this project can be carried out successfully.¡±
