President Kim Deok-ho of the Agency for National Food Cluster revealed his determination to accelerate innovation in the Korean food industry with a focus on Foodpolis, the national food cluster.

He said, ¡°The year 2025 will be a year of change and development.¡±

In his New Year¡¯s message, President Kim announced mid- and long development strategies to cope with environmental changes in the global market and rapid variability in the Korean and global food industries.

President Kim said, ¡°Innovation and growth of the Korean food industry will be accelerated with a focus on the national food cluster, while balanced development of the national food industry and competitiveness will be reinforced through the construction of new food industry hubs and metropolitan connectivity networks.¡±

¡°Connectivity networks between the national food cluster and regional food concentration centers among industry, academia, research and government circles will be built. The agency will serve a governance role for industry, academia, research and government circles, and support specialized for technology verification and post-R&D,¡± he said.

President Kim said companies¡¯ future innovative values will be created by offering diverse services of the whole food industry, such raw materials, production and distribution information.

His agency will reinforce its standing as a food industry specialization institution based on these. President Kim proposed three core tasks the agency will implement this year.

First, he said, a cooperation regime between the national food cluster and the nation¡¯s major food centers will be built through the construction of a linkage network among industry, academia, research and government circles and the reinforcing of governance, while the agency will play a key governance role to connect industry, academia, research and government circles.

Second, he said his agency will ramp up a support regime specializing in technology verification and post-R&D using support facilities at the national food cluster, particularly with the opening of the Youth Food Startup Center this year.

The latter is designed to provide one-stop support, ranging from development of business models to production of finished products.

Third, he said that his agency will create companies¡¯ future innovation values by offering diverse services on the overall food industry, such as raw materials, production and distribution information.

They will be delivered through digital platforms, production process innovation and the creation of business opportunities, and the company will solidify its standing as a food industry specialization institution.

President Kim said his agency will spearhead change as a representative institution of the food industry, and he and his staff will explore new paths with an attitude of ¡°gaeshinchangnae,¡± a Chinse saying meaning ¡®the opening of new paths and creating a better future¡¯.
