Gangwon State has been redoubling efforts to nurture future industries and ramp up steps to stabilize people¡¯s livelihoods.

Gangwon State Gov. Kim Jin-tae said in a meeting with reporters on Jan. 2, ¡°The realigning of future industries cannot be done through one or two years¡¯ short-term efforts, and 2025 will be made the first year of drawing a future industry map anew.¡±

¡°Gangwon saw the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reach 62 trillion won, and we will build up future industry foundations while concentrating on stabilizing the public¡¯s livelihoods,¡± Gov. Kim said.

Gangwon State plans to expand foundations of five industries the provincial government has nurtured under the vision ¡°Global City of Future Industries¡± — semiconductor, bio health, hydrogen, future car and food tech.

Gov. Kim said Gangwon State will concentrate its administrative capabilities on implementing a province -financed project related to semiconductor without interruption, while accelerating projects to build bio and hydrogen specialized zones.

The provincial government plans to front-load the 2025 budget to reinvigorate the domestic national economy and stabilize the public¡¯s livelihoods. It plans to look thoroughly into whether distributing funds evenly will contribute to stabilizing livelihoods.

Gangwon will hold a monthly session in which Gov. Kim lends an ear to complaints and voices of life fields and reflects them. Gov. Kim will listen to field voices in the first such session of this year.

Gov. Kim adopted the Chinese saying ¡°Gaeshinchangrae,¡± meaning the opening of new paths and creating the future, and the catchphrase of the provincial government ¡°This year will be the first year of drawing Gangwon State¡¯s industry map anew,¡± said Gov. Kim, adding that we¡¯ve made preparations so far.

Gov. Kim had designated and announced each year¡¯s buzzword.

The provincial government picked the buzzword for 2025 in the first public contest to raise residents¡¯ concern of the provincial government¡¯s administration and boost communication with provincial residents.

Gov. Kim, in his 3rd year in office of the special self-government, revealed his determination to concentrate on the public¡¯s livelihoods on top of the drawing of a future industry map.

¡°Building foundations, such as infrastructure for future industries takes time, but public livelihoods are urgent, so out of the budget, 7.8 trillion won will be front-loaded. Some 600 billion won in funds will be reserved for nurturing SMEs and stabilizing SMEs,¡± Gov. Kim said.
