Hanwha Vice Chmn. Kim networks with new U.S. Administration and global leaders

Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan of Hanwha Group meets with U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz at the Candlelight Dinner Party at Washington DC on Jan. 19 one day before an inauguration ceremony for U.S. President Donal Trump.


Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan participated in an inauguration ceremony for U.S. Donald Trump, Candlelight Dinner Party and Starlight Ball at Washington DC on Jan. 20 and expanded the networking of U.S. cabinet members and dignitaries from the U.S. political and economic circles and global leaders. 

Vice Chmn. Kim met with U.S. State Secretary Marco Rubo, Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth and U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and exchanged views with them while attending the Candlelight Dinner Party. 

As Korea and the United States are expected to ramp up cooperation in the shipbuilding and defense industry segments in the wake of the launch of the new U.S. administration, Vice Chmn. Kim took time to introduce the businesses of Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Aerospace and explore new business opportunities through meetings of major defense and security officials of the new U.S. administration. 

He met with U.S. Interior Secretary-designate Doug Burgum and exchanged views on energy policies of the new U.S. administration. 

Kim also expanded his network with major Republican senators and representatives, as well as global defense company CEOs, as one of Korea¡¯s delegation from civilian diplomacy.

Vice Chmn. Kim Dong-kwan Emerging as Next-Gen Business Leader 

Hanwha Group Vice Chmn. Kim Dong-kwan, drawing a blueprint for Hanwha Group¡¯s future, is cultivating his capability as a business leader to take helm of the group. 

Vice Chmn. Kim is charged with Hanwha¡¯s four major subsidiaries – Hanwha Corp., Hanwha Solution, Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Impact. He is now spearheading the group¡¯s great shift. 

Kim has played a pivotal role by making a splash in the global defense market by achieving massive defense export deals to Poland and Australia. 

Of late, Vice Chmn. Kim has been credited with expanding the group¡¯s business portfolio to the maritime defense sector by winning a project to offer Korea¡¯s first ship maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the U.S. Navey. 

Hanwha Impact specializes in the successful verification of hydrogen combustion technologies and the development of AI-based future warfare solutions. 

Under the stewardship of Vice Chmn. Kim, the company has been devoting itself to pursuing technology innovation. 

Vice Chmn. How Kim¡¯s innovation strategies in areas, ranging from defense industry to aerospace and energy, will work to secure the group¡¯s future growth engines will become the subject of attention. 

Vice Chmn. Kim has held the group¡¯s major positions, such as deputy general manager in planning at Hanwha Group, head of the Planning Office at Hanwha Solarone, chief of the Strategy Office at Hanwha Qcells, President Hanwha Qcells and President Hanwha Solution, Hanwha Solution vice chairman, Hanwha Aerospace president in strategy division and vice chairman of Hanwha group.

Hanwha Group¡¯s future strategies have been materialized through organic connectivity of the four major subsidiaries. 

Hanwha Corp., the business group¡¯s strategy control tower, oversees exploration and investment of new businesses. 

Hanwha Aerospace is charged with defense and aerospace businesses with Hanwha Solutions, and Hanwha Impact, each responsible for eco-friendly energy and investment into innovation technologies. Each subsidiary is devoting itself to its own strategies and cooperating with each other to achieve synergetic effects. 

Hanwha Corp. posted 12,219.3 billion won in sales and 525.4 billion won operating profit in the third quarter of last year, representing a 2.44 percent and a 27.24 percent increase year-on-year, respectively.
