Shinhan Financial Group announced on Nov. 15 that Shinhan Chairman Jin Ok-dong participated in the Invest K-Finance, an investor relations event, in Hong Kong for three days starting Nov. 12.
The Hong Kong IR event was co-organized by the Financial Supervisory Service, local governments, and the financial sector to communicate with overseas investors about the Korean financial industry and financial companies¡¯ business strategies and plans to enhance their corporate value. It was held after similar events in Singapore, London and New York.
At the main event held on Nov. 13, Chairman Jin Ok-dong provided overseas investors with a detailed presentation on a strategy to revitalize the Korean capital market and future plans for the global market, as well as Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s implementation of its corporate value enhancement plan, including its firm commitment to achieving its future goals.
¡°We are actively utilizing Shinhan¡¯s excellent banking IT along with thorough localization strategies for both emerging and developed markets,¡± Jin said, when asked about Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s unique strategy to stand out in the global market.
¡°We will continue to tap into the global market through careful strategies and thorough preparations.¡±
In July, Shinhan Financial announced its ¡°10-50-50 Corporate Value Enhancement Plan,¡± setting targets and deadlines for achievement using specific metrics.
It also promised to actively meet shareholders¡¯ expectations through a speedy and consistent shareholder return policy going forward.
At the same time, Shinhan Financial Group has steadily step up its efforts to build a trusting relationship with shareholders by holding a round table meeting organized by its BOD in September to communicate with major domestic and foreign investors about the role of the BOD in leading corporate value enhancement and specific implementation plans.
¡°The biggest key to enhancing corporate value is to keep our promises with shareholders and the market,¡± Jin said.
¡±Shinhan Financial Group will do its best to lead Korea¡¯s corporate valuation program with a strong sense of mission and the sincere implementation of corporate value enhancement.¡±
Final Round of AI Ideathon
Shinhan Financial Group successfully wrapped up the final round of the AI Ideathon and award ceremony at the Shinhan Financial Group headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on Nov. 21.
The AI Ideathon is an AI-based idea contest that Shinhan Financial Group, together with the Financial Supervisory Service, held for young adults and high school students for over a month, with Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s AI experts actively mentoring participating teams to help them materialize their ideas.
A total of 373 teams competed in the contest which was divided into two categories — Future Finance to propose new and convenient financial ideas and Financial Consumer Protection to propose how to utilize AI to protect financial consumers.
Of the 13 teams that made it to the final round after the first round, 11 teams took home awards including three grand prize winners (two youth teams and one high school student team).
Members of the two youth teams that won the grand prize will be able to enjoy special treatments whey they apply for jobs at Shinhan Financial Group companies in 2025.
3rd Shinhan Financial Group Big Data Hackathon
Shinhan Financial Group announced on Nov. 22 that it held the final round and award ceremony of the 3rd Shinhan Financial Group Big Data Hackathon at Daegu EXCO in Buk-gu, Daegu, Korea.
The Shinhan Financial Group Big Data Hackathon which Shinhan Financial Group has organized with Seoul National University for 22 years is a contest for college students nationwide to develop new products and services through AI-based financial data analysis.
During the competition, Shinhan Financial Group provided financial data training and mentoring to participants, focusing on improving their problem-solving skills based on data analysis and cultivating financial knowledge rather than simply competing.
