As concern over low-natrium foods is on the rise, ¡°Richam Double Light,¡± released by Dongwon F&B has become the subject of attention currently. Richam Double Light, made with the ¡°Desalt,¡± a desalinated ingredient developed on its own, boasts the lowest sodium content ham among canned pork hams that are available in Korea. 

Richam is a Korean-made canned ham brand, established in 2003 with the industry¡¯s first focus on low-sodium content.
 
The brand, with products made with low-sodium content and soft front pork legs, has caused a sensation in the canned ham market by removing consumers¡¯ perception of salty canned hams.

The newly launched Richam Double Light is the fruit of a technology designed to reduce sodium. 

The product contains 480 mg of sodium and 18 grams of fat, respectively 35 percent or more lower than the average of those of the top three products on the canned ham market.

Dongwon F&B has strived to lower sodium content since the launch of the brand. Richam took such a step twice – in 2010 and 2018. 

Richam products, containing 1,060 milligrams of sodium per 100 grams at the time of the launch, saw solidum content fall by some 20 percent to 840 milligrams in 2010. 

About one year of research in 2018 resulted in lowering the sodium content to 670 milligrams. 

It was not easy to reduce again the solidum content of the Richam original, which underwent solidum reduction process in 2010. 

The reason is that for salt, an ingredient essential for meat to retain its form, the lower sodium content the more difficult forming meat into a pattern of ham and retaining taste.

At that time, Dongwon F&B had difficulties. The use of other developed sodium substation raw materials lacked a natural teste, making it unfit for producing ham, so Dong F&B began to develop on its own a material for lowering the sodium content of a ham, having a tasty flavor and being suitable for producing hams. 

Some three years of research had paid off: the development of the ¡°Desalt¡± and Richam¡¯s application. 

Dongwon R&D has rebranded to renew its brand values. The rebranding slogan is ¡°Richam, Well Seasoned with Desalt Aging.¡± 

Desalt, developed by Dongwon F&B has an effect of lowering sodium content and retaining savoriness.
 
Richaem products boast ham¡¯s intrinsic tastes and savoriness, since they are made by aging ground meat and Desalt at a temperature of -5¡ÆC or lower. 

Dongwon F&B has recently applied for a patent on the production process of Richam using the Desalt.

A Dongwon F&B official said, ¡°Richam has established itself as a ¡®;good canned ham¡¯, mindful of consumers¡¯ health. 

Since the launch of the brand in 2003, the brand has grown into one beloved by people by chalking 1.5 trillion won in cumulative sales value and topping 700 million cans in cumulative sales, and we will ramp up the market competitiveness of the canned ham with differentiated tastes, such as being unsalted with the Desalt.¡±
