Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SLC) was presented with the environment minister¡¯s award as the best treatment facility in the categories of landfill and organic waste resources facilities at the 2024 evaluation of the operation of waste treatment facilities across the nation, SLC said on Nov. 28.
Landfill Site No. 3-1 ranked first for the second straight year.
The site was evaluated highly in recognition of deterring environment contamination from the neighboring district by treating waste in ways of eco-friendly hygiene landfilling and getting higher points in categories of environment and economical aspects by upgrading operation and management technologies related to the production of electricity through capturing of landfill gases and raising electricity production capacity.
The Metropolitan area wastewater biogasification facility topped the category for wastewater biogasification facilities.
The top facility was given higher marks for saving some 3.1 billion won in its budget by utilizing biogases.
SLC¡¯s winning of the award two years in row is evidence of its expertise capabilities as a national public entity of full-fledged resources circulation, as the company has been recognized for expanding renewable energies and technologies related to the operation of waste treatment facilities.

SLC Holds Knowledge-Sharing Program on International Greenhouse Gas Reduction Projects
Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. held a knowledge-sharing program on international greenhouse gas emission reduction projects targeting would-be overseas business market entrants in the resources circulation sector (landfill gas capture, burning and power generation as well as biogas-to-resources) at SLC publication hall on Nov. 8.
International greenhouse gas emission reduction projects involve Korean companies¡¯ investments in secure carbon credits from developing countries.
The Korean government shoulders part of Korean companies¡¯ investments and utilizes credits to achieve the National Determined Contribution (NDC).
NDCs represent the commitments of each country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The program included a session in which SLC explained its international greenhouse gas mitigation projects, a procedure of accepting new projects, an experts¡¯ lecture, and a Q&A session and an on-the-spot observation tour.
In particular, SLC shared information on international greenhouse gas mitigation projects in the resources circulation sector and explained how to accept news projects.
Project application targets for greenhouse gas mitigation include landfill gas capture and burning, landfill gas power generation,; and biogas-to-resources.
Details are available via SLC¡¯s website (www.slc.or.kr).
SLC Chairman Song Byeong-eok said, ¡°I expect the knowledge-sharing program to serve as an opportunity to get a better understanding of international greenhouse gas emission reduction projects to give a leg-up to would-be project participants, and boosting of the projects will not only be conducive to achieve the NDC, but also take the initiative to achieve carbon neutrality.¡±
