Hong Jin-bae, president of the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), emphasizes the importance of securing key digital strategic technologies.
Those include artificial intelligence, AI semiconductors, and quantum, boldly innovating the R&D system to meet the needs of the era through digital technology.
He also intends to foster top-notch talent, such as researchers with master¡¯s and doctoral degrees, digital convergence experts and strengthening regional digital capabilities to realize a digitally innovative nation and digital advancement.
Hong believes it is necessary to enhance global ICT R&D capabilities for innovative convergence and collaborative international research in the digital field, connect with institutions which need digital technologies, or to make investment in digital technologies so such research can be utilized in the market by creating practical results and promoting on-site communications.
They also intend to strengthen follow-up support to boost R&D results.
Hong is doing everything he can to usher in a new attitude for innovation by making the IITP the institution for ICT and digital technology.
Meanwhile, the IITP held a ceremony in honor of the opening of the National AI Research Lab at the AI Hub in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on Oct. 28.
The lab is part of Korea¡¯s efforts to become a global AI leader with a total investment of 94.6 billion won by 2028. It is one of the G3 powerhouses in the AI sector.
This will support AI research and the sustainability of AI-related industries.
The National AI Research Lab is located in the main building of the Yangjae AI Hub in Seoul.
The center is a space where Korean and foreign researchers gather conduct world-class research in the AI field, providing various programs to foster global AI leaders and functioning as a platform that connects the AI industry, AI academia, and AI research ecosystems.
In particular, it will promote creative innovation in AI research, and will actively promote exchanges through regular international seminars and workshops.
The center will focus on AI research aimed at disruptive innovation, such as developing technologies that transcend neural scaling rules and researching robot foundation models.
The neural scaling law transcendence research aims to develop new learning methods and models that significantly boost the cost effectiveness of training and operating AI models.
In addition, the Robot Foundation Model research aims to develop more advanced AI robotics technologies by integrating core functions such as cognition, decision-making, and control that can greatly enhance the autonomy of AI robots.
2024 IITP Tech & Future Insight Concert (SDx)
The IITP held the 2024 IITP Tech & Future Insight Concert (SDx) at Grace Hall on the 6th floor of El Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on Sept 3. SDx refers to software-defined everything.
The event consisted of two sessions – ¡°Technology Status and Development Prospects of SDx¡± and ¡°The Future Defined by SW, SDx.¡± The sessions included expert lectures and debates.
The event was held to explore the future utilization of software technologies and visions for them with SDx as the core keyword.
It was made more informative and enriching by experts covering not only the comprehensive concept of SDx but the core areas of SDx.
The core areas are air-mobility (SDA), automobile (SDV), and robotics (SDR).
¡°Software is growing in importance as a driving force for industrial innovation that will lead the future society along with AI,¡± ITTP President Hong said.
¡°SDx is at the center of it. It is a technology that is changing paradigms in various industries. Through this event, we will examine the current status of technology and forecasts on future technology development and proactively respond to them.¡±
Going forward, IITP will continue to organize informative events like this on a regular basis under various themes.
