Korea Development Bank (KDB) announced on Oct. 31 that it held ¡°KDB NextRound in Jeju¡± at the Jeju entrepreneur networking conference ¡°JOIN 2024¡±.
The conference was co-hosted by the Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
By participating in the conference through KDB NextRound, Korea¡¯s largest venture investment platform, KDB helped foster local startups by creating a forum for exchanges between Jeju-based startups and investors from the Seoul metropolitan area.

Prior to the IR session, Gravity Ventures, a venture capital firm in Jeju, Kakao, the Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and the Jeju Startup Association held a panel discussion on revitalizing venture ecosystems in Jeju, discussing various measures to foster and support promising startups in Jeju.
In the following main round, five innovative startups from various fields based in Jeju and one company from Jeju Technopark pitched ideas to try to receive investments.
Afterward, there was an in-depth networking session with investors from the Seoul metropolitan area.
Held for the second time in Jeju since 2019, KDB NextRound attracted more than 40 venture capitalists from the Seoul metropolitan area including those from IMM Investment, Woori Venture Partners, Kiwoom Investment and Intervest and a total of 150 participants from local venture-related organizations.
This fact reflected their strong interest in setting up Jeju¡¯s venture ecosystems.
¡°We hope that the JOIN 2024 will serve as a stepping stone for innovative Korean startups to grow into global players,¡± a KDB official said. ¡°KDB will spare no effort to support both startups and investors to grow more.¡±
Donations for Pediatric Cancer Patients
On Oct. 31, KDB announced that it visited the Korean Leukemia and Pediatric Cancer Society and donated 100 blood donation certificates and 30 million won.
At the headquarters of KDB in Yeouido, Seoul on Oct. 19, KDB employees and partners actively participated in a blood donation campaign to help child patients suffering from blood shortages and all of the blood donation certificates were used for blood donation.
Since 2005, KDB has been leading the way in protecting the precious lives of those suffering from blood shortages through its employee blood donation campaign.
It has donated a total of 1,900 blood donation certificates and 450 million won in medical expenses for them.
¡°I hope that the blood donation certificates and donations from KDB employees and partners will give new hope and love to children battling pediatric cancer and their families,¡± KDB Chairman Kang Seog-hoon said.
KDB Chairman Kang Takes Home Prize at 5th Genie Awards
KDB Chairman Kang Seog-hoon won this year¡¯s Genius Awards at the 5th Genie Forum, which kicked off in Jeonju of North Jeolla Province, on Oct. 23 in recognition of his contributions to discovering and fostering innovative companies in new industries and building economic cooperation networks in the region.
The GENIE Forum is a global financial and economic forum organized by the North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, Jeonju City, and the National Pension Service held annually in Jeonju.
The Genie Awards recognizes Korean and foreign figures who contributed to building innovative economic networks in the fields of economy, finance and balanced development.
