Hyundai Steel showcased its carbon emissions-reducing automotive steel plate technology, utilizing electric furnace and blast furnace integrated process technology in an international automotive car body society.
Hyundai Steel announced that it participated in major global body conferences, including the world¡¯s largest automotive body materials and parts conference, Car Body Parts (CBP) in Germany in June, the International Automotive Body Congress (IABC) in September, and the Euro Car Body (ECB) in Germany from Oct. 15 to 17.
These car body conferences bring together experts from global automakers, parts makers, and steelmakers to share research and development trends in the automotive body materials and components sectors, inform people of new technologies in the global automotive industry and confirm the technological competitiveness of each company.
At these conferences, Hyundai Steel presented its carbon-reducing steel sheet product technology based on electric furnace-blast furnace integrated process technology, and exhibited actual parts produced to showcase its technology in line with a global transition to carbon neutrality.

In particular, global automakers paid a lot of attention to Hyundai Steel¡¯s presentation of test evaluation results on automobile exterior sheet materials made of carbon-reduced steel plates and its booth displaying 1.0GPa hot-rolled steel plates, 1.2GPa cold-rolled steel plates and 1.5GPa hot stamping products with reduced carbon emissions.
Electric furnace-blast furnace integrated process technology was developed by Hyundai Steel in response to the transition to carbon neutrality.
It is a process technology that can produce steel products with approximately 20 percent less carbon emissions than conventional blast furnace technology by mixing molten produced with iron ore in a blast furnace with scrap metal produced in an electric furnace.
Since April 2023, Hyundai Steel has verified the quality of various carbon-reduced automotive steel plates including high-formality automobile exterior panels, ultra-high-strength steel plates, automobile interior panels and hot-stamping products and found that they have the same quality as blast furnace products¡¯.
The steelmaker has also confirmed that it can produce all types of automotive steel plates produced in existing blast furnaces.
H-Core Product Development
Hyundai Steel recently held the H CORE Solution Product Development Report Meeting at the Hyundai Steel Training Center in Dangjin.
The event was held to share progress in 13 H CORE Solution product development projects and future plans related to the eco-friendly and low-carbon, smart construction, and safety sectors and give prizes to outstanding projects.
Hyundai Steel held a briefing about the start of H CORE Solution product development in 2023 and the 13 projects that were finally selected have come to fruition this year.
Experts extolled the H-Shaped Steel Application Top-Down Column Development Project to reduce the amount of steel used in construction sites compared to simple H-shaped steel application, thereby contributing to cost savings for customers.
The project ranked first among the 13 projects.
Hyundai Steel plans to expand the utilization of the H CORE product brand in the construction market by applying excellent projects to actual construction sites and developing commercialization models.
It also held a contest for the development of new H CORE Solution products.
