President Han Moon-hee of Korea Railroad Corp. (KORAIL) made an inspection tour of Hongseong Station¡¯s convenience facilities and safety on the first train for the opening of the Seohae Line on Nov. 2.

KORAIL began operating trains on three newly opened lines — Seohae Line connecting Hongseong and Seohwaseong, the double-track Shinchang-Hongseong section of the Janghang Line, and Poseung-Pyeongtaek Line, which links Anjung and Pyeongtaek. 

KORAIL President Han examined customer convenience facilities, such as ITX-Maeum train cabins, toilets and passages, as well as screen doors on platforms and arriving and department train passenger movements.

President Han and passengers joined forces to celebrate the opening of the Seohae Line prior to the departure of the first train on the newly opened line. 

President Han presented a bouquet of flowers to Kim Dong-won, a 16-year resident in Yongin, who became the first person to book his ticket on the first train of the newly opened line, ITX-Maeum train No. 1270. 

The ITX-Maeum trains are operating on the Seohae Line, connecting Hongseong Station in Chungchedongnam-do and Seohwaseong Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, at a frequency of eight times per day, four times downward and four times upward. The train takes about one hour. 

President Han said, ¡°We will do our utmost to ensure the safety of new routes so that passengers at three West Coast railway routes can use them at a convenient and safe fashion.¡±

KORAIL Receives Innovation Management Grand Prize from KASBA

Korea Railroad Corp. was presented with the ¡°Innovation Management Grand Prize¡± at the 2024 Fall Academic Conference of Korean Academic Society of Business Administration (KASBA) at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, on Oct. 29. 

The Innovation Management Grand Prize goes to individuals and organizations who have been recognized for their contributions to industrial development through management innovation and social contributions. 

The Innovation Management Grand Prize marked the 10th anniversary this year. 

KORAIL has been selected in recognition of improving public convenience through digital transformation and innovative mobility services to lead the Korean railway industry and building a sustainable management model. 

The corporation has been also highly evaluated on education and management, and social contributions, such as nurturing of core manpower, expanding of its overseas business, and shared growth with SMEs. 

Meanwhile, KORAIL presented its major achievements, such as digital safety innovation and digital manpower development and introduced its innovative management policies to lead the future mobility industry during KASBA¡¯s academic conference following the awards ceremony.


KORAIL Wraps Up Training Program for Vietnamese VNR Officials 

Korea Railroad Corp. wrapped up the fourth project to ramp up safety management capabilities of Vietnam¡¯s railway track segment, the corporation said on Oct. 23. 

The training program, which took place for a 10 day run from Oct. 13 to 22, was attended by 15 officials from Vietnam Railways (VNR).

The program was offered under an official development assistance (ODA) project, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT). 

The program covered a combined 60 recipients over four times – in March and November last year and March and October this year, each with 15 recipients in attendance. 

The program consisted of lectures on railway policies and operation/maintenance and observation tours of major railway facilities, including the KTX train rolling stock depot in Goyang and the Osong high-speed equipment business team. 

The trainees expressed intense interest in the construction of Korea¡¯s high-speed railways and expertise in their operation, in connection with the Vietnamese government¡¯s ambition to build a 2,541 km-long high-speed railway line, connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

The Vietnamese trainees had business meetings with seven Korean companies. 

Participants shared the current status of Vietnam¡¯s railway construction projects, and Korean companies introduced railway construction and rolling stock production technologies and discussed ways of cooperating in the future railway projects.
