The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and the Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea held the ¡°2024 Korea National Food Cluster Buyers Invitation Export Negotiation Session¡± at Foodpolis in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, on Oct. 17.
During the session, designed to boost excellent Korean food exports, 30 Korean SMEs had one-on-one meetings with 20 buyer companies from 10 countries. Seven contracts and MOUs were struck worth about $1.92 million.
The Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea conducted a preliminary survey of items favored by foreign buyers to raise outcomes of the session and offered related information to companies.
The agency opened the ¡°Foodpolis Market,¡± displaying and selling products of Foodpolis tenant companies and operated programs to tour company support facilities, such as ¡±Food Packaging Center,¡± supporting merchandizing of products making them value-added one using advanced technologies and equipment.

In particular, foreign buyers were given the chance to take a first-hand look at the production and manufacturing of ¡°K-Food products¡± by touring a kimchi export production plant at Foodpolis.
Lee Myung-nam, head of the Business Division at the Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea, said.
¡°The export negotiation session has been arranged so that foreign buyers can glance not only Korea¡¯s excellent food products but also company support facilities of Foodpolis and production centers of export companies at once, and we will continue projects to support Korean food companies¡¯ overseas market entry.¡±
Kim Deok-ho Takes Helm of Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea
Kim Deok-ho, former policy committee member of People Power Party (PPP) and an expert with the National Assembly Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, took office as the fifth president of the Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea on Oct. 18.
In his inaugural speech, President Kim said, ¡°We will devote ourselves to establishing the identity of the Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea as a specialized institution that can drive the Korean food industry.¡±
Kim stressed the need for legal and institutional reform, saying that Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea has secured enough capabilities to support food companies across the nation based on the knowhow and technology the agency has so far accumulated.
He elaborated on major management tasks, such as making Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea a specialized institution that could spearhead the Korean food industry; upgrading of a regime for supporting the whole cycle of the food industry like supporting of government policies, technology commercialization, startups support and manpower development; and establishing of a digital-based nationwide cooperation ecosystem.
President Kim put top priority on cooperation among food organizations.
¡°The Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea will raise the efficiency of promoting the food industry by establishing a cooperative system with related institutions to address insufficient things and create synergetic effects,¡± he said.
¡°We will do our utmost to successfully implement the second phase project of the National Food Cluster by attracting large companies and anchor companies.¡±
President Kim is a seasoned expert in the agro-food sector. He held major positions, including director in charge of food industry policy at MAFRA, director-general in charge of agricultural policy at MAFRA and president of the Food and Agriculture Officials Training Institute.
